Hi all,
Some of you might know that my wife and I recently exchanged the congested city of London for the cycling heaven that is the Netherlands. We did that because my wife, a cancer researcher, has been given an opportunity to set up her own research group at the University of Groningen. I think that most people, if not everyone here on head-fi will know someone who has been affected by cancer and that it is a very tough disease to fight. My wife is now developing new strategies to predict more accurately which treatments will work best for which patients, thus improving quality of life and chances of survival.
"Predicting which treatment or drug will cure a patient’s cancer proves extremely challenging. Fighting cancer is like trying to hit a moving target: cancer cells change all the time and they like to keep themselves hidden in a pool of healthy cells. It’s as if you’re picking out the blue m&m’s with your eyes closed."
In order to help set up her lab with the equipment she needs to do this, she has started a charitable fundraiser through the University of Groningen's Ubbo Emmius Fund. Her aim is to ride 10,000km (6,250 miles) on her bicycle in 2019 to raise €10,000 (~US$11,000) to help provide essential materials and equipment for her laboratory.
I wanted to ask people here on head-fi to consider donating through the fundraiser website:
https://www.rugsteunt.nl/project/10k-voor-10k?locale=en
As a thank you to head-fi members, I have been given permission by
@EffectAudio to raffle off the Leonidas II I reviewed (2-pin, 2.5mm balanced) among those who have donated €10 or more.
If you would like to be entered in the raffle (you can also donate without entering):
1) Donate €10 or more,
2) make sure to add as a message "Head-fi - [username]" so we can identify you. Contact me if you did not leave a message and would like to be entered anyway.
We will run it for one month, so the deadline for entering is May 8, 2019.
While you can donate as much as you want and as often as you want, the amount you donate will have no effect on your chances and only one entry is accepted per person. 100% of all donations will go towards the research and I will take care of postage.
I hope people will accept this in the spirit that is intended, as a fun and informal way to raise money for a worthy cause.
