Audiophiles,

I have had my Ipods and now with the classic, 7th. gen loaded with lossless/wav files, no MP3 here, and actually enough for 1 1/2 classics. when you are my age the collection files a room.
Been waiting for the right device and narrowed down to DX90 and X5.
I'm going to need at least at 256G card which costs and arm and a leg.
I've noticed everyone here using 64/128G cards, so what are you guys doing swapping cards in and out???

Yep swapping cards. I have 6 cards and I know that Jamato has close to 20 cards. And note that it uses microSD so max 128GB per card

  That's a pain!! I can't see doing that.
You have labels on the cards?

I number them with a basic bit of information by the number on the card that I keep them inserted in. No pain. I can change to whatever type of music I want to listen to and 64gb's or 128gb's of music is a lot of music.

I have Rock cards, classical, jazz, reggae, world, hires, and on. It works great and given me diversity.

Well, don't expect insane improvements over the X5, but you will be pleasantly surprised by what the DX90 brings to the table. It's "better" for me, athough the X5 is good enough to coexist. I don't have to get rid of the X5 because it's unlistenable or anything.

I'm coming from a world of desktop DACs. The X3 was my first real DAP. I'm fairly certain the DX90 outperforms the Bifrost, unless the Sabre delta-sigma conversion is just not your thing. AKM4399 sounds very different (I'm told it sounds more like vinyl, which can be a good thing for some folks). The DX90 sounds like the Concero which I thought was noticeably superior to the Bifrost. I also think the X5 is better than the Modi and near the level of the Bifrost (non-uber).

I put down a lot of dough and got the F886 and C5 combo hoping it would give me comparable performance to my Modi/Vali stack but the f886 so far doesn't cut it. I'm considering now the dx90 and the X5. The X5 is waaay cheaper here in Canada so I'm stumped if the dx90 is worth the price difference

Given more time with the f886 and comparing it with the X5 the f886 is phenomenal. I've given it a slight eq and it sounds exactly like I wan't it to.

Stupid question but I cant seem to find the answer: does the dx90 have two microSD slots, or just one?

I think it's just one slot whereas the X5 has two

One slot that works fine with the current 128gb micro sd cards.

I'd rather have a single slot and no internal memory than a DAP with a huge built-in storage but no SD card slot. In practice you have no fix limit with storage on a single SD slot.

Dual SD slot is nice to have but not necessary. Definitely is not a deal breaker considering how iBasso cram the electronic parts needed to support the dual dac, beefed up amp and a faster main processor. It is still a no brainer choice for me even if they managed to add a secondary slot on DX50 without improving anything else.

I agree about the internal vs slot.
I was asking because of the X5, and because 2 64gb cards is about half the price of a 128gb card, unless there is some microSD 128gb card I'm unaware of.

Thanks to both of you for confirming.

64gb cards are around 50 dollars each and the 128gb card is 119 on Amazon. Not that great a difference.

Newegg has 64gb microSD cards from Adata, G.Skill, Patriot, and Team for all less than $35.
Amazon has a 64gb Sandisk at $37.

The G.Skill card is $29 and is Class10. I could get 4 for the price of a single 128gb card on either site.

Then I would go with that. Nice to see prices dropping. I imagine the 128gb will do the same. What ever suits your needs.

128 aren't as fast as the fastest 64GB. not sure if the reading speed influences the scanning time.
