Sorry, but both of the are ugly...

I remember jaban hong kong sold a brown dx50 leather case in the early days for about usd30 that I thought was pretty poor quality and ugly too (yes the corner are as sharp as they look below)..... I then wrote to dignis asking for a dx50 case... they came thru finally, but only sell it in local Korean market... thanks Gmarket/Amazon for exporters!

Hey guys, so MP4nation finally sent me a tracking number. I asked them why I didn't recieve one yesterday as they have promised and I got a reply last night that once the tracking numbers get uploaded they will be sent out automatically. Then 5 min later I got a tracking code for fedex. Great I thought but now when I look at the fedex website it says the following stuff:

Tracking number79880xxxxxx
Weight0.2 lbs
Total shipment weight0.2 lbs / 0.09 kgs
Shipper referenceOrder #: 1000xxxxx
Special handling sectionDeliver Weekday

ServiceFedEx International Priority
Total pieces1
Invoice numberOrder #: 1000xxxxx
PackagingFedEx Envelope

So my DX90 weighs 90 grams and is sent in an envelope? Is this right, did anybody else get a tracking code from mp4nation and is he able to to confirm this. I'm kind of worried.

mp4nation have the dx90 advertised for US $429.50 including some iems + free shipping to some countries however when you go to checkout the price showing is US $439.50. not sure if they haven't updated the price or some glitch on the website. have sent them an email, lets see what they say. ah, also one can get a further 5% off if using one of the May coupons. got my dx50 from them earlier in the year with nil issues.

$429 was the "pre-order" price for when they are waiting on stock. Now that they have stock they have put the price back up to $439. Still a good price as it includes FedEx and the R3 iems. Plus as you said using the code "FB2012FIVER" gets you 5% off those prices. I ordered my DX90 a few days ago at the pre-order price + 5% off, and it shipped yesterday, hehe, now that's the kind of pre-order I like :p

Hi people was hoping you guys can gimme some advice if I should pick up the dx50 or dx90. I'm currently using a pair of reshelled tf10 with 4drivers, while my jh13 will probably arrive next month. Around 2/3 of my songs are 320kbps mp3 with the remaining 1/3 in FLAC format.
With my music library having majority of 320, would choosing dx90 make a significant difference over dx50?
Having trouble deciding mainly coz I'll not be using an amp, and people have been saying that dx90 doesn't rly require an amp while dx50 would perform better amped, and on the other hand the dx90's battery life is kinda low compared to the 50.
Having a rly tough time deciding.. :/

yeah i gathered that may be the case and it is still a good price however they have it advertised for $429.50 in one place (see the audio amps & dacs page) - the $439.50 price is crossed out and it doesn't state its a pre-order price. but when you actually go to the actual dx90 page its the 439.50 price (interestingly it changed after i sent them a message as it was showing 429.50 a few hours ago). I don't think they have update their website properly.

i do see on their main page they do have the pre-order at the cheaper price.

anyway, pulled the trigger. hope it will arrive sometime next week.

Yes, you get less run time on the DX90 but you do get higher resolution and a really, really fine sounding player. They are both musical to me, with more resolution in the DX90. You maintain that high resolution when using the line if you need a more powerful amp for something that is really hard to drive but for most all headphones I have tried the DX90, powers them as if it had an external amp.

They are both enjoyable, the DX50 lasts longer battery wise but the DX90 is more detailed. Either way you look at it, it's a win. You'll have to weigh the impressions given so far and your preferences then make a move. At the end of the day, your ears have to be happy. :)

For me the DX90 over the DX50 anyday.  Even adding a decent amp to the DX50 won't compensate for less details, stagung and layering from the DX90.  The DX90 has enough drive for most iems without adding an amp.

Get the DX90. DX50 + amp will cost the same or more than DX90 alone. DX90's HO is already great on iems and can drive some full-size cans to a certain level of satisfaction.

Even if you have DX50 already, I think it's still worth the upgrade going to DX90.

What about if I already have the DX50 and FiiO E12DIY amp?

Simple answer: If you are happy with the sound, then don't upgrade. No one can tell you if you will prefer the DX90 vs DX50 + E12. The DX90 may still be a higher SQ player stand alone, but that E12 amp is quite a bit more powerful than the DX90. If you are only using iems or portable headphones, the DX90 is best stand alone and will be notch above the DX50 stand alone (using the E12 is kinda pointless with iems). If you want to drive orthos like HE-500 or LCD-2, or even just hard to drive dynamics like HD800 or DT880 600ohm, the E12 will be more authoritative than the amp in the DX90. Basically the DX90 is better than the DX50 from a sonic stand point with or without an amp, but I know some people that prefer the DX50 sound!
