I had the option to buy a 2 'month old DX100 for $400...I ended up passing and got the DX90 for $440+ shipping.

I hope I did't make a mistake, but dx100 looks huge and I'm hoping dx90 has superior sound, but I'm starting to doubt that now....

The DX90 has a little more detail than the DX100, less power but I don't notice the decrease in power. I won't get rid of the DX100 or the DX50, they are both special and I think the DX50 is an extremely musical player. The DX90 is very special, a large layered soundscape.

So for a first time buyer, with a set of PFE232's, would you suggest the 50 or 90?

I have HM901, I have also ET MA9 and I used to have DX100 and DX50.

I must say that cowon was better than DX50. DX100 had superb fidelity and super effortless, I still miss DX100, I ordered its upgraded version (R10).

I wish DX90 is like DX100 but I have doubts, notice that DX90 has low voltage (4V), DX100 driven with opa627 at 8.7V is somehow different device.

I have HM901 that sounds superbly, but imaging was much better on DX100. opa1611 in DX90 sounds nice for sure, but opa627... well its different league.

I know that a number of us are dying to hear a comparison of the X5 to the DX90. I bought both and I am still waiting on the DX90 with the rest of Head-Fi. Personally, my hope is that they are complementary allowing me to keep and enjoy both for different purposes. However, I would not be disappointed if the DX90 was good enough to blow the X5 out of the water because it would take a lot to do so. I am buying the DX90 to replace my DX50 as I felt that its amp was a bit of a failure when pairing to my headphone collection. The X5 amp is stellar and a good match for its DAC implementation - 1 plus 1 = 3.

Could you give us a little insight into the X5 vs. DX90, DAC/AMP implementation comparison to make the waiting more tolerable?

Has anyone else noticed that the DX90 with all its extra goodies weighs 4% less than the DX50 at 140g vs. 146g per the iBasso Web site. Since they are using the same case, that seems odd unless the better goodies allow for a simpler implementation cutting the fat somewhat.

Yep I did notice the weight difference, a few things come to mind: DX90 lighter than DX50, DX90 goodies lighter than DX50 goodies, DX90 packaging lighter than DX50 packaging. There are a few possibilities although the first one seems to be less likely because the DX90 has more internal components than the DX50. How about asking iBasso why the weight is different? I have the DX50 so I might weigh it when I'll get it if I still think about it.

Google must not be my friend.  Anyone have a link to a 128GB microSD that the DX can see?  If iBasso is reading... more internal memory next time if you are going to only give us one slot :p
