DX50 a new smaller DAP from iBasso. Spec. page 1. Impressions start on page. . .

Ibasso originally declared that the DX50 would be a "no compromise DAP, affordable to everyone". Common logic states that one of those won't be true

Back to USB OTG: If you guys are looking at USB keys, I highly recommend this compact 64gb one from Kingston. All metal, very compact. Add a low-profile OTG cable like this and you've got 8+64+64gb of solid state storage with minimal power consumption on your still pocketable DAP. Who can beat that at this price point?

I doubt the DX50 will be far less sonically than DX100 or even AK100/120... For AK what you pay for is the massive amount of commercials (sorry..). And the DX100 is expensie because of the integration of the phone face with the custom electronic.
Let's hope the DX50 is more rational, and it looks like it is.

A little case holding 8 microsd 64Gb will give a nice little collection on the go for no battery compromise.

I am expecting the DX50 to be better than the fiio x3, and the fiio x3 is sonically not far off the ak120....

both x3 and dx50 using the same dac except different amp...still cant imagine what are the pros and cons for both...other than the physical and UI design...really cant wait to compare it side by side with my x3 after i had it on hand... :)

It's using the same DAC CHIP. The implementation is more important.

I got high expectations for the dx50 and I don't need it to measure up to the AK120.....but if it gets close to either the DX100/AK120 performance with IEMs.....I don't think I'd be in the market for the AK120 anymore since I feel overall the DX100 is still a better package and just needs a little brother like the DX50 for the portability side of things.  The output capabilities and SQ on the DX100 still wows me every time and serves as my to go rig with the RX-MK3B for serious listening with LCD2.

And yeah.....IMO this will be a good test of implementation vs # of DACs....we'll see how well iBasso can do with the dx60 having 1 wolfson DAC versus the 2 on the ak120....like many said here, everyone knows the ak120 isn't worth the coin with all that marketing behind it.....I'd be very interested to see how close one can get to  it with having 1 dac chip.....I mean u know you're getting gouged when the company is asking $200+ for a charging stand/dock.

I had the DX100 and agree it was an awesome DAP and I eventually paired it with my RX3B however that is a bit of overkill IMHO hence my attraction to the DX50 where I simply want to use it as a DAP only and pair it with Amps/DACs.

According to who? Never have I seen someone that has heard both mention the sound quality being comparable, even the most broad sense of "not far off" would be hard to believe.

Agreed.

Very detailed listening and objective tests under load using dscope III.

Hmm...that's what statistics may say, but have you experienced both of them before? Just curious..

Actually, the X3 is on oar with the AK100 so the AK120 is much better than the X3 as the price may suggest.

I'd imagine the AK120 to dominate the X3 in all categories as well:\ That price MUST pay off!

One does not simply pay $1000+ for a DAP that sounds like a $250/under DAP..I mean, a DAP at the price of $600-800 is already at the edge of the border to be compared to a low-end DAP..

This might be a silly question, but if the DX50 has less than 0.5 ohm output impedance, will it drive properly a 32 ohm headphone(vmoda m100)? I am asking this because I read Tyll's guide about amps and he said that the output impedance should be 1/10 of the headphone impedance.
