I did ask the same (to be precise, about whether a potential DX340Max is on the cards, rather than when) earlier in this thread, copying in Paul too, but got no reply. I've got the DX320Max and I can say you won't be disappointed (esp. off of MangoOS).
The DX340MAX will most likely release late next year or early the following year.
That would be interesting to see if they will still follow the form factor of the previous limited MAX players or if it will be something completely different.

Lets see what the DX340 real use battery life will be. Max more of a desktop solution or car solution. Not lugging that around in my pocket. IF it gets 10 hours of battery power I would be happy. Can buy one of those power brick things to charge while using regular DX340 cheaper than I bet Max will be. DX430 will have stainless steel case. So DX340 will already be made better than DX320.
From Paul: "Our own dac system based off of the highly acclaimed D16 dac. And with the new amp card, with DC input, up to 2 watts output. Stainless steel case."
Honestly, you can do even thicker than that (like the Max version) and still have it as an on-the-go solution (not just car or desktop, as a friend said above). These days there are more and more solutions for carrying bulky DAPs well stowed but easily accessible at the same time (e.g., for changing tracks, etc.). Moreover, modern DAPs are quite robust. For instance, aside from not being able to carry in the pocket, the DX320Max version goes out with me wherever I go, be it on the train commute, on a trip away or on a hike, cos I don't see why I should deprive myself of premium sound on the go for the sake of a few grams less. No wonder bulky DAPs are becoming more popular (real estate means you can develop more desktop-like components and increase sound quality).
I just bought a Dx180 for a great price and it's perfect for on the go and pocket friendly. I can enjoy my music on the go but won't be able to use my favorite amp card. It's very light and small compared to the Dx320. It's smaller than my cell phone!

Not a bad idea if you have a comfortable means to pocket it.
I was thinking if I use a DX320MAX TI on the train or a bus, I can probably bring along a fanny pack/sling bag that I can hang diagonally across my chest and have the DAP rest there while I listen on my IEMs.
