No disrespect, but why do people buy a $1000 dap and listen to mp3s? It boggles my mind.
Well sir - I understand your comment and no offense taken. The primary reason for mp3 files for me is because my library of almost 7000 tracks were already in that format. Eventually I will re-rip these from CD to FLAC but that is a big project and will take time away from enjoying my DX220!

However, with that said, the mp3's sound fantastic to my ears and I have done some comparisons of mp3 vs wav without being able to consistently pick which is which - maybe my hearing is not up to the "golden ear" standard. Not to start a big debate or, as Christoph points out, get too far off-topic...

The point of mentioning mp3 was regarding whether the DAC's consume more power to convert mp3 vs other formats. What if we found that uncompressed wav files give the longest battery life? Start buying much bigger memory cards...

Cheers,
Tim

I know for sure WAV sounds the best. However, compressed or uncompressed is just a ways of talking about how a file is being stored and read. As far as music goes between analog and digital....every digital music is a “compressed” music.

Some formats are a lot more computationally intensive then others and as such will consume more power - hence why the DSD512 can be used to fry eggs on your DX220 :ksc75smile::ksc75smile:! Since wav files are usually uncompressed PCM digital format they should be the least computationally intensive if I am not mistaken...

Cheers,
Tim

A workaround is downloading a nighttime screen filter app that you can use to darken the screen. I found a decent one thru APKpure, I'll post the name if anyone is curious. It doesnt work on everything in Android (dropdown menu primarily) and might eat up more battery than not using it

Please share. Will love it for DX220 and DX150 as well.

Thanks for your reply Paul.
I agree with you if the DX is connected to a portable device also running on a battery, then it makes sense not to drain the battery of the source.
But if the DX is connected to e.g. a stationary device like a PC consuming the electric power from a wall plug, then it would be great to have the option to charge the DX in DAC mode.

Ideally there would be an option in the DX settings that let the user decide if the DX should be charged in DAC mode or not, what do you think ?
We can't change the settings to do this.
