It may be just me, but I am the type of person who enjoy going through burn-in phase. I listen to it, observe the changes, some players can be a rolling coaster, and some is more gentle but steady, but non the less, such experiences are the privilege of buying brand new item. However, sometimes when some thing takes upto 600-700 hours....it sucks...and take forever LOL!

Thanks Guys. I thought I needed music. Never had a piece of equipment with a break in cord. I am presently breaking in a set of ZMF Verite headphones and its Norne Einvaldi cord. Daps is new experience.

I manage to install firmware by doing an off-line update and installing on device directly using firefox.
still isn't recognised as a usb device on my MAC might be because I had to use as a USB to USB-C adaptor so I've ordered usb-c to usb-c cable and see if that resolves the issue. Just hope it's not faulty ...

Only manage to get an hour with my Steilla initial impressions I've very impressed. sounds just amazing with Stellia amazing sound stage and detail . Very slightly congested can see sounds wants to get larger , imagine it will grow during burn in process.

I see what the fuss about :)

As I also have the amp 8 I couldn't resist but order an XLR to 4.4mm cable on amazon..
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07MNMNP3K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was going to wait but too eager to give them a shot just hope the cable is adequate to pair with stellia and doesn't lose too much detail,

It seems that some people still aren't getting it with respect to mods. These mods, while they have some prolifically posting adherents, are still used only by a few. Those few each prefer a few IEMs/headphones. iBasso has to come up with an amp module that pleases a broad userbase with broad equipment, not just a couple bros with specific gear and specific tastes. Obviously they could apply AMP8EX for very little additional cost, if any - they're buying caps in extreme bulk/wholesale. They tried a whole lot of AMP8 variants before settling on the one they personally preferred with their tests and equipment and tastes. @rutter why not pay Fidelizer to mod your DX220 to your liking? You behave as though you're entitled to a specific sound that DX228 just isn't providing to you. Well, why not just stick with SP2000, it's sure to please? Otherwise, if it's not in the cards, then DX228 is what you're going to have to live with, or get rid of it and get something else.

iBasso could release endless "mod" amps that are set up for a specific set of gear/taste. But, if it doesn't have broad appeal, as people of all types and tastes and gear will try to buy it and listen to it, it will tarnish their reputation. It's the same reason why car manufacturers are reluctant to make their cars extremely unrefined or aggressive or tuned up for production; it has to be fairly driveable for most people and reliable and not too dangerous.

any suggestions on minimum spec for SD Cards. Would I notice a difference between U1/U3 cards on this ?
seen a good deal on scan disk U1 but little worried about performance compared to U3.
Speed difference is usually on write speeds, min 10 mbps vs 30. Video recording makes a difference, music playback not so much. What's the price difference as that's the biggest variable?

I think modding AMP/DAP is like after market cable mod and rather personal taste of modders themselves. Even things like flagship products, people still mod it like WM1Z in other topics . I also modded some myself.

I own highend system so things like Cayin N8 and AK SP2000 are cheap comparing to generic highend DAC at $10k. I mod mine to enjoy sound that I prefer. This has nothing to do with manufacturer being capable enough or not.

For one thing, I like changes AMP1mk2 that they made some adjustments similar to my mod offered years ago and I respect them to build affordable products with good potentials for modders like us.

Keetakawee

I think the OS can be optimized to be smoother, even if it couldn't it's as smooth as my Sonys and Aks, so no big deal. The two selling points were swappable amps, and the PEQ, oh and I have to admit the nice screen and aesthetics were factors also.

Plus It does deliver on sound quality.

I agree that the OS can probably be optimized to run better. It's not necessarily just the processor.

Perhaps IBasso can consider built-to-order program for their amp modules. User can configured each component to their spec. Of course at hefty price for warranty, QC, inventory cost, etc. I won’t mind additional $ for 1000hrs burn-in from factory.

Is Capacitor or I dunno the name, dont have life time ?

When I burn in my device, i check in the morning, with specific song and time line. Adjusting the volume with the same gear, even same enviroment every day until it hits certain hour mark. Even I put timer beside it if I left burn in all night.

Make sure you read all of it, closely. It's basically audiophile porn that's already shot but we're not allowed to buy. It just doesn't make sense on a fundamental level. There's money to be made, people, and joy to spread!!!!

Yes it's getting diluted and a bit silly. I think mods can be great.... But until I've heard the particular mod in question I'm not going to get too excited about it. I like reading and gassing about audio, and there are even a couple of people who's opinion I value.

But again, and it's a big Butt  (sorry couldn't resist) I only really trust my own ears. I've personally bought way too much gear that was praised as the second coming and I found it meh.

I know what I like sound wise and I'm very happy with the dx220- I was looking for a bigger soundstage with good layering and air and I got it. Now I was an aircraft electrician/avionics guy so I can handle a solder iron- I might try just changing the two caps in amp 1 ii, just to be able to hear if I like the change and to tinker.

I also might get the amp 8 for the 4.4 Jack to try out. But I can't get too excited over stuff I haven't heard.

I guess my point is you can't keep saying- give me the best I will pay for it. What is the best, what does it mean? It means nothing if you are relying on second hand info. My best won't be everyone's best, like I said before, it's possible you won't like the sound of the mod, or it might not be all you hoped it would be.

If I change to the Panasonic caps and I don't like the sound I'll be able to switch the Nichicons back. But not everyone can do that. And frankly I'm enjoying the vanilla sound alot. Best is so subjective, you have to take everything with a grain of salt- and sometimes you need the whole shaker.
