This is very strange, how come a person referred a Smartphone sound performances to be closely resemble high-end Desktop quality to compare to the many portable DAP ? Makes no senses

I've just tried HD800s for the first time. With an SP2000 in the showroom and with my DX220

SP2000 is better for sure but the difference is not day and night.

Both below my expectations. Again. I guess the problem is my high expectations which will never come true

SP2000+HD800s is the most expensive system I've heard. Sound quality is very good. But the sound stage is still mediocre. A 5-10 cm radius sphere surroinding my head

DX220+ HD800s everything similar but a little less of detail and soundstage.

Very close to a positive review. Shocking!

And to think dx220EX , Amp8EX can elevate the sound of dx220 further ....have you compared it to sp2000 yet ?

To me, the 228ex, 200TI-EX, SP2K are too close to each other for me to pick one over the other on SQ alone. So considering all the features the SP2K wins for me. And let us not forget the Cowon Plenue L ESS9038 and NO android!!

I'll bein the small minority here, but it all is mental. Many people can not let themselves open up and will be hugely unimpressed by this gear. IF one can not stop thinking while listening or is analyzing everything than that person is not really listening to anything else but himself. Until that can be stopped nothing will be true and any kind of money spent would only go to waste(everything is how ego describes it and not how it actually is, a mind is a very potent thing that needs to be controlled). If you are one of them then stop spending money in this hobby you will never be satisfied untill you reach a breakthrough mentaly. Most egos wont even accept(after all how could your own mind ever admit that its the devil) so this is probably usless...
As for those who can get rid of their egos or at least, hold them at bay while they listen to music, they can enjoy more and can actually perceive the differences and have the most wonderful experience. If ones ego is not willing to accept it for whatever reason one shall never hear a difference, you are standing in your own way and no one no gear will ever change that. It would save a lot of people a lot of money If everyone would realize this as well as end the pointless arguments about how everything sounds the same..
I would love to have a proper studie made for this, but have no way of making something like that happen.

Good news: My DX220 is probably not the issue. I listened to HD800s and HD820 with both my DX220 and a SP2000. DX220 was oftentimes slightly behind SP2000 as expected. Sometimes the difference was very small and it was hard to A/B. So my DX220 shouldn't be broken. If it was, DX220+ HD800s would be catastrophically worse than SP2K +HD800s

can i tell you one thing no dap out there will drive any hd 800 properly, that needs a solid desktop dac amp

as for ie800 just sell that thing, not relevant these days

I enjoy my Hd800s portably

I did use desktop amp, I do use desktop dedicated system, and I can build my own desktop amp

However, I still enjoy Hd800s immensely with portable devices. Most noticeably is Dx228ex and DMP-Z1

I got offer an ibasso dx220 at good price..but what is holding me is the battery life..it is stil terrible with the updates and all?
