From the connection point of view the 4.4 has clear advantages, better contact and even more important it is physically more sturdy.

The worst thing you can do with a 2.5mm socket is to plug in a big and heavy plug with a not very flexible cable. This puts a lot of force on the tiny 2.5 socket.

The AMP1mk2 should have a 4.4 balanced port instead of the 2.5, this design decision i can't understand.

simply no room inside that little amp1 MkII

I suppose that this could be the reason, but i never opened the AMP1mk2.
Interesting to know.
However iBasso has the freedom to define their own amp size and measurements.

It could be that the compatibility between the amp modules of DX200 and DX220 was an internal 'must have' requirement for the development of the DX220 and that when the amp size was defined first (when the DX200 or even earlier), nobody thought about this, minimizing the size as much as possible.

Nope, same sound
Do you have such adapter your self?
The more connexions in the path of signal the more chances that the sound could drop quality.
So far I have tried lots of jacks 3.5mm,4.4mm. The higher purity of copper the better sound quality.
There are not many companies who are using pure copper. And if they are making them, they are pricey. Furutech for instance. 3.5mm pure copper pin=45€.

Fiio 4.4 to 2.5 or ibasso 4.4 to 2.5, those ones are the best by far without spend 100$
