Hi All,

I have the Ibasso DX220 now for a week and so far I do like it a lot, it sounds awesome. The screen is awesome and the DAP responds fast, excellent wifi and GUI. I can only compare to the Opus #2 as this was my previous DAP (I still have it to compare), which is also awesome BTW!

The DX220 has some downsides, for example, the layout, 2.5mm and 3.5mm connector are at the bottom of the dap instead of the top. I do not like this, when carrying in in my pocket I need to put the dap up side down. When controlling the volume with the screen on you can not see the sound level in lock screen mode. It would also be handy to just slide your finger over the screen to higher or lower the volume - as with the opus #2. The interface of the DX220 is much better then the #2.

I have noticed when streaming songs in Tidal the first second of each song is skipped - this is very annoying. Would be great if this can be fixed...Also when stream 192khz songs in Tidal the device stutters and can not handle the stream.

The leather case looks a bit cheap and the colour is not my favorite, black would have been better. Because of the leather case you can not scroll from the top to get the notification screen displayed on android.

The sound quality is very good. Compared to the #2 it has much more power, sounds a bit clearer and certainly darker background. Both devices are very musical where the DX220 pushes out all the details into my 64audio A18's the #2 sounds a little bit smoother and warmer. The DX220 has about 50 hours of playing time now, let's see how the sound will evolve over the next 50 hours.

Learning curve. I have the WM1Z and what I have never liked is that the charging is at the bottom so when I have it on a desk, the cable goes to the bottom, which is a pair but the phone out is at the top, which is also a pain as it would be nicer to have it directly at the bottom when on the desktop. No big deal though. The case that came with the WM1Z isn't as nice as the DX220 case, IMO. Would be nice to have a Dignis case though. I like their quality.

@chupa , just to add to John's and Steve's comments above, DX220 has a modular design where the amp module attaches at the bottom. Amp module is where you have your headphone and line out connections, while digital (S/PDIF) and USB-C ports stay with the main chassis and thus located at the top. It's just part of the design due to its modular nature.

Was preparing to AMP8 to come... and I learn from past exp regarding burn in... and was concern about the warm. plus how much I love this DAP.. so I do my own Cooling DIY.

the ingredients :
-U shaped un anodized Aluminum, this is use as heatsink for LED lamp casing.
-thermal silicon pad (ussually for GPU heatsink)

some customization so the volume wheel.
need to chamfer the sharp edge.

walah...

Poor dad DYI. total cost less then USD 5.

disclaimer : unanodized Alumunium is very good for heat dissipation, but when u often touch with our skin, its getting dark... plz wash ur hand before u eat...

edit : yes, this is one of my anxiety relief while. waiting... no denies needed

edit 2 : Need fan to help will be good... well still prototype, need further improvement #anxietypart2kickin...
looking for sharkfin heat sink then

if not for the sound quality, almost gave up on dx220. but after rediscovering neutron player (used it before on NW-ZX2), all my playback problems seem to have been met and solved. mango player has the advantage of decoding MQA files, but neutron can do almost all the mango player does, and more:
1. a queue list can be made, and songs can be added either at the end of the queue or next to the currently playing track.
2. playback to UPNP/DLNA/Chromecast devices
3. tracks from UPNP/DLNA servers can be added and integrated to the music library and the play queue.
3. and finally, mqa files can be decoded bit perfectly. in mango player, 352kHz mqa files are decoded to either 176kHz or 192kHz. and sometimes, 48, 88.2,96kHz mqa files play at 192kHz or 176kHz. in neutron, 352kHz files are played at 352.kH, 48 ones at 48kHz, 89.2 at 88.2, 96, at 96.:ksc75smile::ksc75smile:

Neutron is the best music app for dx.

Try oversampling option

And comimg soon "All to DSD option"

Wouldnt all that tape/puddy just make it hotter ? I dont think adding a metal case over the metal frame will help it not over heat. Think you OVER thinking it too much.

Yeah... I only think how to get more heat dissipation by getting more area to be dissipate...

again ur right... back to my drawing board thought...

btw, the Thermal silicon pad is good item to transfer cool or heat...

Ha, drill a hole at one end of the dap and another at other end. Get a tube long one running from your A/C put one end in front of A/C the other end of tube in a hole in dap. Outdoors, you can carry dap on chest with a baby holder vest so while you walk the air hits the dap. BTW, Tube amp will make it even hotter.

I think all this concern about how hot the device gets is overblown. The fact that it's getting hot to the touch is proof that the design is working as it should. It's wicking heat away from the components that require cooling. The housing itself is doing a fine job of acting as a heatsink and doesn't need any help.

Now, putting the player inside a case is another matter altogether...

Wow, all that for pornhub ?

With that setup he probably hosts pronhub! :astonished:

And I thought I was heading into overkill territory with my 50TB+ enterprise media server...

It's actually my media server / workstation. It has an Asus STXII 7.1 hidden away in there. I use it for everything from editing and rendering video in 4K, doing VR flight and car sim, 4K gaming and serving up multiple 4K streams and SACD ISO's around the house from 2 x 30TB Storage arrays. It's also not bad with pron in 3D on the 120" 4K projector system. Yes I maybe a waynekor, but at least I enjoy it. LOL
