Waiiitttt....what ? Wm1A sound digital ? What ? That is hard to believe but then I never heard of wm1A. It makes sense that you love dx200 and amp4 more though as this combo is on par with wm1Z just different signature

1A relative to 1Z, kind of yeah...

Random possibly stupid question...I have always powered off the DX200 when switching AMPs...is this necessary or can I swap amps with the unit on?

Dx200Ti especially titanium and Amp1Ti ....detailed, airy performances.....is another level. Anyways, 100% that SP1000 can not do DSD512 ROFLMAO

Sure and that's why I moved from WM1A to DX200, but WM1A is not in the Ti price bracket either.

Quick question while you're here, and since you mention the SP1000... do you know what's the jitter spec for the DX200? can't find a value on the spec sheet...

Jitter can only do so much, what you need would be lower phase noises at a specific frequencies, and the stability of the oscilliator precision. The clock is weird, the larger it is, the more expensive it is, the better it does the job. This and the power supply are what limited the size/performances of a portable unit in comparison to a full-size desktop.

Anyways, back to the questions, I have no clue about it jitter specs, but 40fS is typical of any oscilliator, and again, it is only a good marketing specs.

Now, my questions for @Paul - iBasso , what oscillators brands are being used in the dx200 ? I just have not opened it up yet, and so I have no clues lol. It would be better if I can find out more specs about these oscilliators as I am a very curious cat too

I agree, a rule of thumbs is to turn off every devices, before plugging and unplugging....heck, even your headphones. Therefore, before swapping amp modules, make sure your device is turned off. But here is a kicker.....why does Dx200 Click and pop ? Because if the amp is not active, the dx200 mosfet is switched off from output to preserve the battery. This is also a fail safe when you are not using or plugging your headphones in on the amp modules.

Anyways, play it safe, turn it off before swapping

I didn't feel it sounded digital when I had the WM1A, very layered, dynamic and neutral warm DAP from memory.
Not as detailed and airy as the DX200, not to mention less flexible (no streaming, no modular amp) but pretty great DAP in my book.

Sorry it was poor form to through a wm1a sounds digital hand grenade into proceedings and then just walk off for the day. Just to expand on this incendiary comment. I still listen to quite a bit of early 90s "shoe gazing", i.e. the likes of Cocteau twins, Slowdive, Ride and My Bloody valentine, all of whom love a shimmering often heavily distorted rhythm guitar, which is where i can easily picked up a slight digital glare. The Hugo2 for me is great reference point ,where the shimmering of a cymbal or guitar sound beautifully cohesive and natural, the 1a to me just sounds for want of better word processed.
I should add i listen at pretty low volumes 20-30 and only through a18, phantoms and S-em9 iems.

Apart from other reasons, different amps have different power requirements, and the driver detects amp requirements only on boot. So, yes, it is necessary also to turn required power supplies on/off.

Thanks Lurker0 and the few others that replied. I figured turning it off was necessary - glad I've been doing that :).

There are a lot of DX200s on the FOR SALE forum...outside of the DX200 Ti, I wonder what people are moving into...?
