DUNU DN-2000J -- More Than Evolution?

The HE-400, from the last time I heard it, is not at all similar to either the 2000 or 2000J. Both models are brighter than the dark-ish HE-400, but if I needed to choose which one sounds more similar to it, I'd choose the 2000. It has more bass and mildly laid-back mids. However, I would not say the DN-2000 is "similar" to the HE-400. The HE-400 has a signature that is more similar to HiFiMAN's own RE-600.

Jm2c, it's been some time since I heard the HE-400, but they didn't strike me as dark-ish. Granted, significantly less bright than the 2000J, but imo the RE-600 lack treble presence and air in comparison to the HE-400.

Actually, the IEMs I thought sounded closest to them back then were the TDK BA200. Just going by memory though...

I guess I should clarify: I've never heard the RE-600 as inordinately dark, perhaps because I've only listened to them balanced out of an HM-901, though they are definitely darker than the RE-400. I probably also shouldn't have used "dark" to characterize the HE-400; warm and phlegmatic would probably be better descriptors. In that vein, I think the RE-600 shares the same kind of characteristics.

Just finished listening through the Marcos Valle & Stacey Kent live album ("Ao Vivo") and it sounds simply fantastic with the 2000J.

Bass in particular is absolutely spot-on in this track:

So, thanks @tomscy2000 for recommending these IEMs to me, they've definitely earned a place on my top list!

I want to clear something up here.. I could not listen to the 2000J prolonged period of time not because of its bright nature, but because of the timbre as tomscy2000 wrote in his post above.

I feel that TWFK or most BA drivers have hard time getting stringed instruments sound correct to my ears.

I even felt this with the JH Audio Angie.. so yeah, even if they sound technically proficient, I loose interest listening to them after just few mins..

It was too much for me too, but then I discovered the 2000J hybrid tips (those are the grey silicone ones on the platform. It has thick foam under the fold (kind of like the Sony hybrids that had foam under the silicone). These tips have helped me enjoy the 2000J immensely. I still favor, however, the K3003 overall, but the 2000J has the best bass to my ears.

Guys, I have a great opportunity. Please convince me to upgrade from Titan 1 to 2000J. I know already that bass quality is much superior (but what about quantity? I use Titan 1 with a bass mod - twice as much bass), mids are better, they sound more "3-dimensional", but what about highs? I simply love Titan 1 treble. It's addicting.

And ericp10, 2000J or FX850 for you?

eric?

I haven't listened to the Titan in a long long time, but I don't think there is any competition. The 2000J is in totally different ballpark, and it's a different game. I'll have to listen to the Titan again to comment on the highs, Off the top of my head, there's quite a bit more clarity in the 2000J (due to the highs).

Both are so different, so that's really a tough one. I only have about 50 hours burn-in on the 2000J, so ask me this question again in about a week. If you absolutely need an answer now, nothing beats the timbre of the FX850 (still). So I would go with the woodie (strictly base on my sound preference).

fx850 and 2000j is tough comparison, lol. I wish I didnt need isolation 90% of the time, would have liked to have kept the 850. I think Eric has a point, there is just something about the 850 with the right music that sounds so nice, though I like the 2000J's overall signature more (except for the sibilance problems) and the mid-high/treble spike on the 850 annoyed me sometimes- but I guess some people like that a lot  (maybe simlar to what I read bout the Titan having a 'v' shape) so who knows

And what about bass quantity on 2000J? Titan 1 levels or less? Just to confirm. Titan 1 (with 2 holes covered with adhesive tape) has ALOT of bass and thats something I like too. I'm a bit of a basshead, I can't deny. I just want better quality bass, but with the same quantity. And of course, better everything else.

My DN-2000J starts to have some weird sound/noise during low bass, for example kick drum. There is uuhk uhkrr and sometimes crack crack sound during and following the kick drum bass.I don't know how to explain it but it definitely sound not right. This sound is there even when playing at low volume and the sound is even louder if I raise up EQ in the low frequency (<125Hz) bands.
I've been using it for just about 2 months. Is the driver damaged/defective? Or I am just paranoid?
