Hello everyone.  I'm starting to get more and more into the audiophile world, and I have so far found a decent priced soundcard and headphones that I thought would suit me best.
Would the Asus Xonar Essence ST (the PCI one) and the Beyer Dynamic DT990 premium 600ohm be a good pair together?  The Xonar Essence ST claims it can support up to 600 ohms, and the DT990 600ohm version was also cheaper on Amazon.com.  What do you guys think?  I was mostly looking for a brighter sound and clear/crisp/clean/deep bass, not boomy or punchy.  If there any other headphones to compare to the DT990s, please let me know.  Thanks for you help!

Well, the dt990/600 is certainly punchy if not boomy as you've described the bass you're after. But when I owned it, I liked it as I like a hp with more bass. 
 
You might consider the dt800 which is a more neutral headphone. Also consider: Sennheiser hd598 or hd600.

I would say to start out with the DT990 Pro 250-Ohm.
Maybe upgrade to the Premium 600-Ohm when you buy a $300 tube amp.

If the amplifier is not worse than on the PCIe (STX) version, then it would drive the DT990-600 without problems.
