Thank you for response, ifi costs too expensive inmy country, i will order thistiny unit:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_AquUV8

Ali standard shipping for douk u2 pro and power supply - approximately 30 days, i hope i will have it before new year:)

And one more question which hdmi cable to use for i2s? Top Ugreen hdmi for 9$ for 50cm will be enough? Or i need 20-25cm hdmi cable?

P.s. a little bit strange, that box with retail price of 50$, can improve sound quality of the dacs in 600-1000$ range, it sounds like nonsense for me... What is the real usb reciever price in this dacs? 10 bucks?

It doesn't make the DAC sound better, necessarily, but the point of it is to clean the signal before it reaches the DAC, so you know you're getting the best, cleanest signal coming in. It's great for me, because I'm using USB(digital signal+power in same line) from my PC, and the U2 separates the digital signal from the power, to give you clean digital only(as I understand it). Sure, more expensive DACs are already supposed to do this well by themselves, but now you can bypass the DAC's processing(who knows how good/bad it might be), and just give it a guaranteed clean signal instead. Less reliance on one part to do everything perfectly well.

Has anyone been able to get this working with ifi Zen stream? It does not show up as an output option. Ifi support seemed to think I didn't know how to plug a cable in despite giving detailed troubleshooting steps demonstrating usb output works fine, the douk works fine elsewhere, etc. :/ so I thought I would ask here.

lower usb slot should be the output one on the zen stream but you might also need to adjust the bit depth to get it to play nice. 24/384 is i believe the max supported by the u2 pro.

Yeah but it does even show up as an option for output.. However it shows up fine when plugged in to my j2. Would the bitdepth and frequency on the Zen stream really affect if it shows up at all?

it showed up instantly, didn't even have a dac connected to the Douk, perhaps try a different cable and try again?

Hope that helps...

Cheers!!

😂😂😂

I have found that sometimes the Douk can be temperamental with better quality cables, why I have no clue, lol!!

Cheers!!

So I triple checked and the douk took a dump and fails to send usb description information on windows... So replacement is on it's way
Sorry to hear that, at least you have a replacement coming, hopefully it will all work out for the best!

Based on this thread, I tried out the standard version and was really impressed, so I returned it, ordered the TCXO version from eBay, and its warming up now. Many thanks!

I had previously tried the Matrix between my Auralic Aries G1 and Musician Pegasus DAC - didn’t hear much improvement, so I sold it and stuck to AES out from the Aries. I’m not sure what has changed (system is basically the same, minus a different power cable to the amp), but with the U2 pro, I’m digging i2s now!

Note: on my Pegasus i2s input, DSD channels are flipped, so I swapped the PCM channels in the Pegasus i2s settings and flipped the XLRs to the amp to fix.

I don't like that the U2 driver does not allow any bit or buffer settings changes like real XMOS devices (2048 samples vs 512 vs 32 etc). Those settings allow for fine tuning the sound quality. Better off just getting one of the 'Sky Song' converters IMO.

I never got to report back on the three units due to medical reasons, but I much prefer the TCXO to the standard version, in fact it's my go to of the three, when I went to get the other versions I could not, so I just ordered same thing in sky song versions.

The middle version to me makes everything perfect, when I can I will post a link to the one I ordered...

Cheers!!

Been looking at one of these for a new in-car audio setup. Upgrading the BMW HiFi amp with a Bimmertech PP86DSP (ala audiotec fischer), which PnP to the factory head unit, but has a separate optical input. The unit will switch between the input depending on the active signal.

My current setup is iPhone tidal app -> BT to a Tune2Air WM3000B which integrates with the factory usb/aux input. The new amp should hopefully improve the SQ to an extend, but still, it's BT.

I'm hoping to improve the SQ even more by: iPhone tidal app -> lightning midi cable (usb-b) -> U2P (with an external 5v power source, likely linked to the switched power of the amp) -> toslink cable -> PP86DSP. The beaut thing is that my phone will still be connected to the Tune2Air via BT and the steering wheel button would still work to skip tracks, but volume won't work obviously.

Question: Any potential issue with this setup? and what is the best streaming quality I can expect with Tidal? Would I get up to the master quality or HiFi?
