I think that this comment just pushed me over the edge with buying the the PS1000. I've been hesitating because of 2 reasons: its huge weight and the sound is too similar to the GS1000i....

I'll second what was said about the ps1000s weight. It doesn't bother me that much, but it is a factor, and they will slip off when I tilt my head. If the LCD-2 was too heavy for you then the ps1000 will probably be as well.

Best part is that they 'snap on' over the stock band meaning there is no need to break the

I listened to my Ps1000 for 3 hours last night.
for every 15 minutes i would adjust the headband on my head.
the sound was very very good.
 
i love them so much even though it is heavy. If i can choose again i still will buy them.

They don't get much exposure on here compared with the T1, HD800 and LCD-2.
 
Then again, they are very pricey and that surely has something to do with it.

He seems to be a real specialist when you need spares eg, spare HD 414
pads, headbands, etc
 
He's yet to get back to me on price but they will land on his door step on
Monday. I'll pick them up and give you the full low down then.

i strongly recommend you to have a pair even though they are heavy. the miserable experience of wearing them just will only happen when you are very tired after work.
 
i am now listening Jakob Dylan's Seeing things.  it is like having invited him to sing for me. He is now singing right beside my bed.haha
 
I found at the begining Ps1000 is a little dry, but after 20 hours burn in. the sound will have a big improvement.
after that it will keep making step up and you will feel shocked about the progress.
 
compared to other headphones, the ps1000's special place is .
1. the song is in your head but not from outside.
(when i listening to them i found i can no longer focus on reading, the voice is so real and it is inside my head.( I haven't experienced it before)
 
2. You  even can see the singer's expression when listening to them.(other great phones only make you feel like sitting in the hall.)
3. You will feel that you are the one who are playing the music.(other phones simply play music to you,)
 
 last week i compared Ps1000 to my Denon D7000.D7000 is not good anymore. the sound is very dull and much less details.
singer's voice is like having caught a cold. i am thinking of selling them.
 
strongly recommend Ps1000.

Glad you are loving them, and thanks for posting your positive impressions. They were savagely blacklisted here very early in their lifecycle, almost exclusively by people who never seemed to own them, which was disconcerting to those of us who are intimately familiar with them as one of the very best dynamic headphones on the market.

I agree with what Bilavideo said ages ago. Price hampered the PS-1000, I am not underestimating or belittling what Johnny Grado had to do
in terms of R&D to finish the product but a bit more research into profit margin versus turnover may have revealed a price of $1200USD
or so may have brought more punters to the table to try it.
 
Look at the Ultrasone Ed 8 & 10 - I know a heap of head-fiers who write them off the bat simply on price.
 
Only STAX manages to breach ever new pricing heights without questioning or reprimand by the community.

STAX is not criticized as much as other headphones simply because they are rather inaccessible to many people here and being "electrostat" make them think they are special and deserve the status.
 
Ultrasone is..... well.... it is rather known fact that the sound signature is extreme, which makes love&hate situation for many people (my case.... same with almost all STAX minus 007, I just cannot listen to any of Ultrasone headphones for more than 10 seconds. Same goes for Grado headphones with bowl pads as well.)
 
Well, Edition 10 was really terrible when I heard them (could not believe they cost $3k), Edition 8 was actually sounded ok.... probably the best Ultrasone headphones I've ever heard. But the fact that $1.6k you are merely getting second-tier sound performance is just unacceptable. I must point out, however, since all of closed headphones' performances are very underwhelming, Edition 8 is worth for buying as good closed headphones.
 
I said somewhere in this forum a long time ago : PS1000s are the best John Grado headphones I've heard; I pretty much heard every single Grado headphones in existence with exception of HF-2 and first batch of SR325, and PS1000 are the most musical and most listenable Grado headphones. But for 1.7k USD, it is just not worth it IMO, even with comparing other super expensive headphones.
 
Being said, I am eagerly waiting for my PS500 to arrive.....

Agreed the Ultrasone Ed. 10's were very underwhelming and this was out of a Violectric V200 and Sugden Masterclass listening
to 'Romanza' by Bocelli - it's all down hill from there. Some bloke was dead set keen at the meet to buy them, but then he
reconsidered upon seeing Tyll's youtube review and started to doubt his own ears and bank statement.

 after having given my Rs1i to my father. also after a long comparasion with mpro, Rs1i,Ps500.
i finally choosed GS1000i, which i think it is the same grade as ps1000 and lighter.
 
i have burnt them for 2days only . i can't help saying something here even though they still need long time to burn.
Gs1000i is really different from ps1000, ps500,Rs1i.
Ps500 is very similar to Ps1000 with same strong of bass and smaller soundstage and less details.
Ps1000 is more similar to Rs1i compared to Gs1000i.
 
It seems that Gs1000i present the beauty in a different way. Rs1i and Ps1000 present the vocal in front of u nearly. while Gs1000i always keep singer certain distance from you.
around 3 meters i think. u become a audience sitting quietly ,watching the spot light down on the singer.guess it is like concert. i haven't been any concert though.
the music become very elegant. not full of energy like ps1000. not near like Rs1i. in low volume, gently, you can hear every details.
 
i listened to leorard cohen.  it sounds so different from ps1000. in Gs1000i his voice is a little far (but propper)so calm , so peaceful, so elegant, so quiet......
 
I beleived that Gs1000i will become better and better when completely burn-in.
 
by the way, they are also very comfortable.

Thanks for posting your impressions..The comfort on the GS1000i, as opposed to PS1000, is definitely a major benefit. Even though the PS1000 is my favorite headphone, and sounds better to me than anything I have heard, I often think of trading it in for the GS1000i, just so I don't feel it so much and don't have to keep re-adjusting the cups, which slide down constantly due to their weight. I suppose I could do that mod where I add stoppers to the rods, but they would still be awkward and floppy. Plus the only club that is lonelier than the PS1000 club is the GS1000i club.

i found even only directly connecting ipod, GS1000i can work very well. same as rs1i and ps1000. but who will carry a half-kilo ps1000 to connect directly to ipod.
 
Gs1000i can do. with no amp, the sound has less detail. overall weaker.
But in a way more relaxing. the sound quality is high, just with a smaller scale. the singer's voice is still clear, near, sound stage is still large.
everything is there. slower, softer.
 
It is really suitable to bring them to have business trip. after a busy day, laying on the bed, enjoy the sound. it is not heavy though. like putting nothing on.
 
after burning for almost 40 hours, the sound became smooth now. i am so happy that i made a right choice.
 
then i changed to D7000. they just sounds not "right".
and not as comfortable as Gs1000i. they make me realize they are headphone. i am listening headphone.
 
Gs1000i make me feel i am listening to music but a headphone.
that real...you know.
