MQA-certified devices were again presented last week.
This news should have no effect on their operation, but raises the question of the continuity of Tidal's "HiFi Plus" offer, completely intertwined with the MQA production chain.
MQA Ltd never seemed willing to release an encoder/decoder, so the few MQA files in circulation might just be unplayable for years to come.

Most of iFi product is based on their own unique DSD1792 DAC implementation. DSD1973 is a super old chip (*going back a few decades) so naturally it doesn't support MQA by its own.

Other way around.

Most iFi products use DSD1793. They've never used DSD1792 (yet).

Green is often the color of 16-bit/44.1kHz data, but there's no one standarized color pattern every manufacturer follows.

Green feels 3% more "musical cozy" and blue feels definitive. Mostly, usually, depends a lot on the recording but generally yes.

Let me put it another way. When I get a new thing: amp, cable, headphone, whatever... and this is true. To hear if it's doing much of anything, it makes no sense to hear a crap recording. I go to the best and those do tend to always shine blue, and usually be recorded in only the last few years. Something definitive has happened in some circles of production/recording in even the last few years and the blue MQA come through. We get distracted by so many other things we forget what's right there. This small select group of blue-MQA just keep getting better and better to where if you want to figure out whether the cable/amp/dac/headphones are an improvement, you want to hear a blue MQA to see for sure.

If MQA is in the DAC chip that, presumably, means that the MQA license fee is included in DAC price. Why would I pay it?

tidal Individual user for years and i never even cared about if a track is mqa or not. if a dac can handle it, fine, if uapp on my phone has to handle it, fine, if my windows pc has to handle it, fine. never heard any differences even with headphones like k812, ether2 or whatever. but thats probably just me

According to TIDAL as of July 24 2024, they no longer support TIDAL.

It's dead, like Quadrophonic sound and so many other things that came and went.

Plus you pay for something now obsolete that could have been more usefully invested in elsewhere in the product. MQA Licensing wasn't free.
