Not any random device, the HiBy devices (and some other devices besides) are outputting a coax S/PDIF signal out of a spare pin on the USB-C, not all devices do this. Our own M300 doesn't, for example. The original 2018 R6 didn't, for example.

How’s the power output of the clarinet? Been a fan of dethonray since the dtr but after buying a pre release of the sg1 the power output left me disappointed. Anson was cool and even made me custom firmware to max out its output and it could eventually drive the Mest mkii to satisfying levels but only in high gain with the volume knob maxed out.
So my concern on this is power

The cable could not work! If the cable connect to clarinet, mean the signal connect to Ground. So you could hear a noise then no sound out.
The picture from @fx88 means clarinet is an unambiguous design , If there is COAX signal input for either the left or right channel, it can be received.
So the best way is a RCA output from source ,then use the clarinet RCA TO 3.5 adapter.
What you say makes sense based on the diagram indicated but that would be a non standard set up for absolutely no benefit and would only cause confusion.
That might well be the case of course.
I have the cable and a Clarinet on the way so I will advise is due course.
If it doesn’t work I will make a new cable to suit.
Could anyone tell me if the Clarinet comes with an adapter for RCA to it's coaxial input. Hiby do a USB to RCA adapter and want to know if this will work or if I need a different Hiby cable. Thank you
The sound is warm thick and wide. Better then r6pro2, similar to onix xm5 and m23 or better. I do not listen critically but i can feel the power in the sound.
I’ve owned both. The D16 is a very solid dac/amp. A bit more laid back. The price is difference is unjustified in my view. The clarinet is a great value for what you’re getting.

Thanks, I see you sold the ibasso, was it not to your taste? Bare in mind that I usually the usually more natural sound of discrete DACs. What are your go to sources and IEMs today ? Just to have an idea of your tastes
Different animal. D16 is high refinement, the most natural Dac, with a 320 max amp stage. The Clarinet is a $200 very musical little fella. If you have the gear to go along. The D16 is amazing. If you don’t, you won’t be able to squeeze the most out of it. I won’t be surprised if someone says the Clarinet is better.
