Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!

I need advice on the differences between the 5000 and the 7000.  I've read some opinions that state the 5000 is superior.  Are the 7000's worth the extra money?

The majority of previous D5000s owners find the D7000s superior, just search this forum and you will find very few people who actually prefer the D5000s over the D7000s.
I've never heard the D7000s and I probably never will, for me the D5000s are good enough :)

Here's my $.02...
The main difference between the two is the bass. The D5000 had gobs of fat bass. The D7000 is nore balanced and 'neutral' (it is NOT neutral... just moreso). The overall tonality of the two is similar, but the D7000 is slightly more refined, detailed and faster. They are both rich and warm and lush.

I think the D7k is worth more than the D5k. 'List' more? No, but with some of the discounts written about ($550 - $650)... yes.

Caveat: Synergy is critical. The right files, DAC, amp... will make a difference.

I was able to listen to both of them at my local audio store recently. The first time I listened, I actually liked the D5000 better than the D7000. On my latest vist, I began to hear the refined sound people talk about here in the D7K. For me if I can get D5K for $400, it would be a good deal and imo worth the up-buy over the D2K. For $700ish I'm gonna wanna hear the HE5-LE. But yeah, if you can get into to D7K at $550 or so, I would think that's a nice deal. They were $899 at the audio store.

If I want to compete I'll have to get those J$ pads. . . those things look pretty cool, and after personal position testing of the headphones (that is to say, finding how they best fit on my head) I found that the bass really needed some space to grow, and when placed too close to my ears the bass was muddy and not very present.  So I'm looking forward to trying those out.

$60 for a marginal increase in sound quality?  That's a deal compared to a $300 cable, or a $1000 DAC.

For me it was not marginal! And I agree for the money it is a cheap up grade.

Can there be a better pair of headphones for electronic music?  After trying several different headphones, in ear monitors, etc, I haven't found anything that can reproduce electronic music in such a clean and engaging way, while still managing to give the bass that EDM depends on.

The J$ pads are an essential upgrade.  No question.  They make a pretty bigs difference in fixing some of the AH-Dx000's biggest flaws, which stem from too-close proximity between driver and ear.  It's unfortunate that they've gotten so expensive (I think I got mine when they were still just $30), but it's worth the upgrade either way.
