Im still on the search for a new pair of phones and im now debating between the d2000 and the m50. Ive heard really good things about both but are the d2000 worth spending so much more? I listen to folk rock, classic rock, dream, and most music with anything acoustic. Im not a big basshead so if there is moderate or slightly less bass that is fine. Ill be driving them through my android or my pre amp. Portability is not a big deal to me at all as i will generally be sitting while i use them. If there are any cans better suited for me feel free to tell me all about them. Thank you for any imput!

IMO I wouldn't suggest the d2000 then. Personally I always felt that the d2000 were too hollow sounding and that the music was behind the listener. They're a great pair of cans for hip-hop, rap, and club music, but I never cared for them when it came to acoustics. The DT990s might be a good choice if your looking for clarity with some added bass, but I can't say for sure since I have only owned the DT880s.

Oh i forgot to say im looking for closed back phones. Arent beyers open backed?

dt880 and dt900 are open but the dt770 are closed. Are closed headphones essential because of outside noise or people around you?

do the dt770s or the hfi 580s come with a 1/4 inch adapter so i can play them through my pre amp?
also what are the build qualities of the two like? my previous pair broke due to poor build quality. what is the comfort like?

Wearing Beyerdynamics is like putting your head between the thighs of an angel. And they're built like a tank. I don't like Beyers for their recessed mids, but a lot of people do. Can't comment on the 580s.
