Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

The Mojo might be a tad bright with it, the Mojo 2 I haven't heard. The Denon D9200 pair very nicely with the warmer Sony walkmans. Still using a ZX2, old and slow it is, but if you wanna invest in e.g. an NW-WM1ZM2, or the older NW-WM1Z, go for it.

From what I read about the Mojo 2 here in comparison with the Mojo, M8 etc., it might be a very good choice. The Hugo 2 certainly is, too.

I enjoyed both the mojo and mojo 2 with the D9200s. As the review says, once you've heard the 2 it's difficult to go back to the OG. Since then I've sold both mojos and listen with a DX300 with amp12.

Yesterday I listened music with my audio combo such as music server Melco N100 - Dac Schiit Gunnar Multibit - Monolith THX amp - Denon D9200 was so awesome and a fatigue free listening experience that I have never listened before. This headphone is very capable of many genres and a really upgraded from Sennheiser HD650 or HD600. I only use HD650 for slow romance pop music now. Next I will try to upgrade a linear power supply for Melco N100. If someone bought these headphones and somehow found it difficult to listen then maybe there is something wrong in his or her music chain equipments.

The D9200's are one of the most enjoyable closed backs out right now in my opinion. They are so balanced sounding. I do boost the low end with my Lokius, but that's more of a personal preference. What's great is the D9200's can easily handle it without distorting.

Is the headband same with 9200 as with 7200? I went to try the ergonomics and the headband was awful. When I put the headphone in my head, the headband goes pretty much vertical and it created a hotspot immediately and caused my headache after few minutes. Was I using it wrong or is it designed for people with a square head?

I like it angled forward on your head about 20-30°, you can spin the cups freely. and one extra click on the adjustment bigger than you think it should be, the clamp force is sufficient to keep them in place, don't rely on the headband.

Huomenta - The headbands are different on the Dx200 series. The D5200 has thick foam padding, the D7200 has some kind of internal plastic suspension band, and the D9200 has thinner, firmer padding. To me comfort was similar on all, maybe with a slight edge to the D5200 - maybe because they all a similar shape and will put pressure on top of your head. I haven't tried, but some have said that Dekoni Nuggets help.

I'm surprised you find the 5200 more comfortable than the 9200. 5200 gave me the worst hotspot as they turn completely flat when stretched out. 9200 is more contoured. It also has far better earpads, which contributes to overall comfort.

To be honest, I have only tried the D5200 very briefly (although I used to own a set), so the may have become less comfortable after longer on the head.
I didn't notice any difference between the earpads, other than the colour.

Yes the headband on d9200 just doesn't contour to the round shape of the head, it goes almost immediately flat for any size head so it leaves a hotspot right on the top of the head while having no contact with the sides. The solution is just to add padding just on the sides of the headband, not the middle, so you get more contact there; I used Dekoni nuggets and it became quite pleasant to wear.

Can you please share the link to those nuggets?

And these stickers for attachment are lasting?
They do last, I've had them on for a few months with no problems. In case you need to remove them, the adhesive is weak enough that it will come off pretty easily. Depending on how long it has been on, it will take some more leverage to pull off, but it won't damage the leather on the headband.
