Nice .. exactly the same combination I started my DAP adventures with .. Is that an A&K SR15 -> Meze 99 OFC balanced cable -> AH-D7200? I even had the same red case :)
Almost, mine is A&K SR25, the younger brother of the SR15. The AH-D7200 tuning together with the A&K are for me a match made in heaven!

Then I should not recommend you to audition the D9200. That would be leading you into temptation

Pretty much except for a couple of outliers the D9200 has been very well received. I recently picked up a TH900 and think these two are more complimentary of each other than they are in competition.
I'm waiting for your TH900 review and a little comparison with the 9200s :beerchug: I'm glad because you are enjoying both.

---

Something that happens to me with the 9200s (and a few times with my other HPs) is this: when I put an album, at first I find the sound unpleasant, but if I let the music continues and get accostumed to the sound -because I have listened to the album from other sources and now I find a different approachment to the sound- at the end, I enjoy it, maybe not all the songs but most of them... That is happening to me right now with "Eternal Tears Of Sorrow - Chaotic Beauty" (I enjoy a lot the sub-bass in metal genre). Next week, I will try this album with the Beyer DT 1990 Pro, that I hoped to receive last week but the delivery have been delayed.

I have the D900 from 1989 and the current D7200. The D900 are very nice headphones, confortable (with modern earpads), excellent sound and bass. They were my favourite together with the open back Sennheiser HD599. Nevertheles, since I bought the D7200 I barely use the old ones any more. Sound detail and tuning is much better in the D7200. I have very limited experience but the D7200 are my absolute favorite headphones nowadays and they are incomparably better than the other two. I cannot compare with the 5200 and 9200. I wish I could try them!

What is everyone’s favourite portable DAP with the Denon 9200 that you consider to be a great match? 🤩
mine is ibasso dx220 with amp9, its a great little dac, I have a sweet spot for the sabre chips, and the little amp9 with nutube's. the little amp9 imo pairs so perfectly, it smooths out the harshest parts of the 9200, if you can even call it harsh, and lifts some of its weaknesses, if you can even call it weak, but it makes everything better compared to other non tube dacs i have.

I'm very interested in the 9200, but I'm concerned about the pads - anyone know if they are the same as the 5200 in depth/opening? I had the 5200 and was OK with the comfort, but read that they had better pads than the 9200. I have a pair of TH-X00 Ebony for example and the pads are too shallow/small, but all pad swapping dramatically changes sound (for the worse). I'm concerned that the 9200 pads will be equally uncomfortable and require pad swapping which will completely alter the sonics.

I don't have many DAPs, or at least, nothing really noteworthy. The best "portable" source that I have for my AH-D9200 is the Chord Hugo 2.

With that being said, I don't think I'd ever take this duo out for portable use. I could see myself sitting in some cafe, pondering the finer details of life (or just reading a book, really) over a cup of tea, and enjoying music with the Hugo 2 and the AH-D9200 - but using these 2 as an on-the-go combo? Nahhhh.

The AK SP2000 is premium and the Shanling M8 both pair really well!

I wanted to show you my latest Arctic Cable...the Magnus. This cable is incredibly ergonomic for the amount of wire. It is awesome, and a great deal at the price. I am still "burning it in", but so far the sound is very nice. I am posting the link to the cable on the Arctic Cables site, so I don't have to type all of the specs. Magnus
