Denon AH-D7000

I am no leather specialist.
But the headband certainly looks like pleather to me its very flimsy and we can easily feel the headband material behind it.
As for the the earpad I didn't know it until markl disassembled the d7000. I don't have the courage to do it on mine to make sure though

Markl posted pictures a while ago, however, the thread was deleted. They are definitely pleather. False advertising. There was something else that Denon claimed was different from D5000 which was false too, but I can't remember what it was.

It was deleted because after seeing the pictures, I got upset, wrote Denon about it, and I was "chastised" rudely by some members here. It got ugly so the post was deleted. I work in the food and beverage industry and I see lies going down all of the time. Regular olive oil being rebottled and sold as extra-virgin olive oil. Inferior coffee beans being sold as 100% Arabica. Sevruga caviar being sold as Beluga. It's criminal and I can't say anything or I will get fired. So for Denon to falsely advertise is just business as usual, but it is my right to speak up against it. They are a great company and I wish them success. Just don't lie, that's all.

I think somebody should actually verify if it got deleted. That thread was created and vanished during the outage where 10-11 hours of threads vanished.

Markl made a comment about the "Free Edge" technology in that he was wondering if this was actually something new for the D7000 or just a new way to market what was in the D2000/D5000. He did NOT offer any evidence supporting or refuting the statement. It was just a comment/question.

MarkL's review is here. His conclusion is that the D7000 offers only minor differences over the D5000. Unfortunately I have to treat his claims with skepticism because he seems to have only compared the MD5000 and D7000. I just skimmed over his review (again) and he doesn't explicitly say he A/Bed the D5000 and D7000.

I also see no problem in the bass that makl described that would justify his mod.
But I listen at moderate / low volume and I think I read in one of his review that he tends to listen loud.

Markl sells a certain product. Personally, I've never heard the issues with the D5000 (at low, moderate, or high volumes) that he describes and so I'm skeptical of his modification. Other people may like the mod, but that's really more of a personal preference than any objective flaw with Denon's line.

I really don't mind that the construction is the same as the D2000/D5000. I find the D2000/D5000 to be very comfortable and I'm fussy about comfort. At least to me, most other headphones I've tried (AKG, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica) are not even close. Denon copied the construction for the D7000 and I'm fine with that. I just hope they did something about the loose nut/bolt issue some people have.

As for the leather/pleather problem, the pleather material Denon uses is incredibly comfortable. I don't think just because it's an expensive headphone it SHOULD have leather. They should use what works well and is comfortable. It's not as if they used the pleather material you see on the Sony V6.

That being said, if they are not using real leather they should not deceptively advertise leather. It reminds me of Hershey chocolate and how they wanted the FDA to change the definition of "chocolate" so they could sell a inferior product (cocoa butter was replaced with vegetable oil) and still call it chocolate on the label.

I think the post on his website is basically (I think it might even be a word for word copy) what he said in that thread with the added audio review on the headphone.

I read through this thread and the general consensus seems to be that the D7000 is like the D5000 with more bass and slight refinements everywhere else. I find the D5000 to be pretty bassy, so I can't imagine what's going on with the D7000.

I haven't tried the Markl modded cans nor do I endorse them......but with that said, the D5000 definitely has some bass problems in regards to control. The phone has a large quantity of bass, but it is not controlled well.

For example, compared to headphones like the Edition 9, you can see that it is more loose. The Edition 9 has a good quantity of bass also, but it is very precise and controlled.

Besides that, the D5000 has a wonderful sound signature and does very little wrong.

How does he remove the pad so easily in the video?
I made a full 360 turn while pushing on my earpad and they still wont pop out.
