Which mod, mine or the foam pad? I just got my other two Sennheiser pads and put one on my D5000's. It really is a worthy improvement. The last one goes on my D2000 when they get here from Martin's Custom Audio workshop.

Your mod, the Senn pad mod.

Greetings fellow Denon/Fostex fans!
I'll likely be going for the TH900 in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, how do I still love the D7000? Let me count the ways...
It's hard to describe, but there is just something about the texture of the instruments-- the tone--it's exquisite. It sounds like a warm and radiant tubed-out 70's analog hi-fi system. A little soft and loose maybe, but soo beguiling, inviting, musical, right...Know what I'm talking about?
To those that have/have heard the TH900: are we talking about a continuation of those virtues, or another beast altogether? I guess my main concern is that it still be relatively smooth/soft or bright-but-listenable on top, yet without being shelved/boring like, arguably, some other well-regarded cans.
Cheers!

If it's close in tonality to its TH600 little bro, yes, more of the same and I see that as a good thing. I A/B tested the TH600 and my Lawton modded D7000 for a few days, very controlled experiment style and couldn't tell them apart. Good luck with your TH900! I'm staying with Denon, got a D5000 with custom cups made from Brazilian a Rosewood and had a set of COCOBOLO Rosewood cups made for my D2000. Love the Denon sound. And have a pair of D600's that I love as well.
I love my D7000's they are my favorite top tier headphone of all time.

They really are fantastic headphones. I opted for the TH600's and both have their many many positives but for me they are the better choice. Either way both are fantastic and you really can't go wrong either way. I really wish that Fostex and Denon could have kept that relationship.
Thanks,

Listening to them now...
Have the TH900, LCD3, HD800, but the D7K still have that special pleasing sound signature. Won't ever let them go....

Only sold mine to get the TH600's. I miss them but I'm happy with what I have. I do kinda miss just staring at them though... Those words cups are just sexy.

I've been thinking about getting the TH900 for a while now. But honestly, I love the D7000 sound so much, I'm not sure, given the reality of financial constraints, that I need to really upgrade. I can understand how they are imperfect-- I can imagine how they can be improved. And yet, what they do right they do so well...--They're not going anywhere, and so I might save my money for an alternate/complementary pair of headphones...
Can anyone else relate? You can hear their imperfections (if you choose to listen analytically), and yet at the same time hear how they do what they do so well: A rich, smooth, big, full, tubey, '70's organic sound...

I too, focus on what they can do and well, as opposed to what they can't do. I loved them for being them.
