Your Marantz 2235 was most likely repairable.  Could have simply been a dirty or corroded volume control or balance knob......which Deoxit would have fixed.

Yes, since building the Bottlehead amp and going through this plug replacement, I've learned the most valuable thing I can think of: problem solving. I'm planning on getting another Marantz receiver in the future and will maintain it when needed and will try to figure out any problems. Before building the Bottlehead amp, I was helpless and just let frustration get the best of me.
