Dan Clark Audio E3 Review: Interview, Measurements, Impressions

I use a Fiio BTR5 and it powers them just fine. Was worried that I'd have to find a new BT/USB DAC but that's not been the case.

On low gain using the 2.5mm balanced output I'm getting ~105db with the vol at about 40/60. I've turned it up louder for a few sec just to test and couldn't hear any distortion.
And the BTR5 would be considered a wimp compared to Gryphon and most other recommendations!....?...

Yep.
I've got a desktop amp with more power but it sounds the same to my ears.

Not an expert but, unlike a dynamic, planar drivers tend to (always?) have a flat impedance so they don't require more power to have the proper bass response.

This old article is a good read on the subject:

And here's a power calc showing what would be needed to drive the E3s at 110db:

This is where they get the most use.

Walked around the office a bit with them but they're a bit big to be used outside IMO.

If I want to listen to something while out and about I have wireless buds and IEMs.

Vnice...I'll give you 10 bucks to do it. But you have to make detailed observations on "strange looks count" . Lol...

I'm looking for whichever has the best performance and power, I don't need various options.
Why don’t you find something easier to drive such as 660S2?

If all you are looking for is to make sound from E3 then either headphone jack or mojo2 will work. You will hear a fraction of what E3 is capable of. Don't complain if you don't hear the visceral bass impact, sub bass extension and boundless soundstage and high resolution rendition of atmosphere, among other things.

I personally don't understand why people intentionally gimp their high end cans with meh electronics. They would almost always be better off with mid priced cans and top electronics.
