Creative Aurvana Live! 2

In regards to cable replacement, I wrote with the seller on eBay (the same linked to earlier in this thread).

He said the cable for the momentum and HD5xx does not fit Aurvana Live 2 due to the lock-mechanism. Someone here already purchased the HD5xx cable and it seemed to work just fine (I guess the seller just assumed), someone did though mention its very long headphone connector that might cause some strain (page 22).

Anyway, the seller said to get these instead: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Replacement-upgrade-Cable-For-AKG-Y45BT-Y50-Y40-Y55-K845BT-K840KL-headphones-/201195269395?rd=1 - also has a shorter connector.

Last but not least he said it was copper.

edit: this is the cable another user bought that worked (with the long connector): http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Replacement-Audio-upgrade-Cable-For-Sennheiser-HD598-HD558-HD518-Headphone-/261255113290?pt=US_MP3_Player_Cables_Adapters&var=&hash=item3cd404aa4a&rmvSB=true

Oh, and seller said they put $8 on packages (value), so customs shouldnt be an issue.

Another option for cabling are these

http://www.dx.com/p/gold-plating-3-5mm-female-to-2-5mm-male-audio-adapter-golden-silver-203414

They fit perfectly, are of great quality and you can use any 2/3pole 3.5mm cable with it.

Has better bass texture than the first iteration but the treble and midrange is unnatural and the balance is off, I never really liked the cal2 over the cal1.

My conclusion after a few days of listening is the same.

I've tried correcting CAL2 with the equalizer, but after setting them up closer to CAL1 (less bass, more midrange), they sound worse than recabled CAL1. There's something wrong with the vocals, they just sound worse. Also, the vocals are still slightly quieter, so I involuntarily bump up the volume so that vocals have the "right" volume to me, which means everything else is louder. This leads to me being tired pretty quickly, not to mention health concerns, as I already listen to CAL1 pretty loud.

Which is a shame, because there are some pretty clear advantages of CAL2 over CAL1. If they didn't change the low-mid balance so much, it would be the perfect headphone for me.

Creative made the Aurvana live 2 to appear more to younger user and it's definitely more stylish, but not better sounding. That why creative still haven't discontinued the original CAL yet. Till this day, my modded and recabled CAL1 is the best sub $100 sounding headphone to me.

A modded and recabled CAL1 is a tier above the CAL2 IMO.

I'm finding that after 100 hours of burn in these headphones get better. Originally I felt the mid bass was a bit much and would eq down from 200-60hz, but now I don't find a need to anymore, or at least to a lesser extent. I still think the sound stage is impressive, and I like the comfort and isolation but I do feel that the pad will need to be replaced over time.

Thanks for the help / reviews. So I snagged these on the low from amazon warehouse and really like them so far. What is the first / most essential mod for these? I am assuming new cable, but I'm not trying to go all out. Is the stock cable that ****ty?

In my opinion I would not waste my time or money. An eq adjustment will have a more profound effect and cost less. Otherwise save $ and go upstream to the next can up your list.

Hello,

do you guys think that this cable will work well? I just bought a CAL!2 and I read about replacing the cable for one "clean".

And which one offers better sound, OFC cable or OCC cable?

This is what I ordered for mine, Silver Plated Copper http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=3570 and it makes no difference to the sound. I thought it did at first, but it was only making it louder, not cleaner sounding. If I turned it down slightly the signature is exactly the same to my ears.

TJ Max and spurxiii, thank you so much for your replies :)

@TJ Max, do you notice any improvement over the stock cable?

(Sorry if my English is bad, it's not my native language)
