I have a crack otl I did the 'ho lee' mod on with muse es caps and bradley allen resistors. Its great! But I wanted to know for those of you who eventually moved on from crack to better tube amps maybe with a similar sound, what did you go to? Thanks.
I designed my own amps but used 6SN7’s instead of 12AU7’s. I owned several tube amps from Schiit audio prior to making my own. I also have a device that allows me to hook headphones to the outputs of tube power amps made by Cary and PrimaLuna.🤪

No two are alike and I built over 50 in various types of hardwood and often copper.

I wouldn't necesarily say that I went away from the Crack as I still listen to it often but my main headphone amp is an Ampsandsound Mogwai. I also use a Bottlehead Mainline that a rotate into the setup from time to time. Both the Mogwai and Mainline are technically superior to the Crack with SB but I still enjoy listening to the Crack as much as the other amps. There are some phones (ZMF Aeolus, HD6XX, HD650) that have special synergy with the Crack IMHO.
No wonder as both the Mogwai and Mainline are both on a different league but the Crack hold its own ground in its price category IMHO

Agreed and as I was saying earlier I get just as much enjoyment out of the Crack as the others.

The Cavalli Hybrid CTH won't disappoint too for a moderate price.

I built my BHC about 6 months ago, and it sounded quite nice, I had been listening a Vali 2+ with a variety of tubes, but, you know how things go....searching for the sound, etc.
Tried a few different tubes in the BHC before settling in on an RCA xxxx (the rest is gone) and a Chatham JAN 6AS7G and a Valvo/Amperex 12AU7. Each change made a noticeable improvement, and things were good. But, there's always a but...

I connected the Vali 2+ as a pre amp and , with a few exceptions, it has really opened up the BHC, all the warm tubiness plus additional clarity and resolution.

Is anyone else running a similar config? A pre amp into BHC?

Hello everyone. I wanted to try my hand at rolling some 12au7 for my crack, so I went for a pretty cheap bundle that had some telefunken ECC82 in them, except what I found inside the packages instead was a couple of Phillips ECC82.
Did I get scammed hard or are these still decent tubes?

IMHO many of the Telefunken are worth considerably more than most of the Phillips tubes. If they advertised Telefunken you should have received them.

I got them inside a bundle along with 30 more NOS tubes ranging from Tung-Sol, Siemens, Fivre, Marconi and other brands for a total of 40 bucks. There are also 3 or 4 more actual Telefunken's, although they're not 12au7.
The 2 Telefunken ECC82 were my main interest, but I wouldn't be exceedingly mad about it if these Philips end up being decent enough, considering what I paid for the whole bundle.

Very nice! While Telefunkens are typically more valuable in the market I actually prefer the house sound of Holland made Phillips tubes over the typical Telefunken house sound. Of course there are exceptions and these things are often equipment dependant but generally speaking I prefer the Dutch Phillips house sound.

If the pictures/description listed Telefunken ECC82 then you should have received them.
It appears to me like a bait and switch has occurred otherwise.
I never buy these bundles as most claim they come from an estate or dad's old repair box and they are never usually tested.
If you can use what was offered for the price, then you may be satisfied but I personally would not buy these lots unless I knew the seller or they were tested.

I usually don't buy bundles like these either, but for the price I was willing to take the risk. Of course I would have preferred to receive what was shown, but as long as these ECC82 are alright I won't be too mad about the whole bait and switch. I will share some opinions once I get to try them.
