Cowon J3 - Personal User EQ Settings

i didn't think so when I first got my D3--and i'm quite certain--but the D3 did not sound like the J3 with same EQ settings.

After the latest firmware X.55 (i was on 4.53) for some reason it sounds the same as how i remember the J3 sounding (sold a few days ago).

I've only tried connecting to my car stereo (nothing high end)--but the J3 has been THE cleanest and best sounding so far....  D3 didn't sound anywhere near as good earlier today when I first got it.  Curious to try it tomorrow now that it's on the latest firmware.

As someone who has used many different android phones/iphones--mostly all 1.0Ghz or higher---I honestly don't have any issues with the UI of the D3.  It takes a while for the loading of the album art thumbnails, though.

Otherwise, as long as sound quality is the same, then I think I have a winner here :xf_eek:  Z2 would surely only be better.

FLAC audio and MKV (most popular video format nowadays I would say) works with the x.55 update!!!!  worked before as well

Hello,

Do you know what's the best settings for Klipsch S4 ?

I got excellent sound with iTunes with my macbook pro with default eq.

I'm trying to use BBE Vita 2 but it's not really good..

Thanks :D

any good settings for gr06?
i get excellent output from my realtek card (laptop) but i get "boomy" bass on my cowon. any ideas?

I don't have the GR06, but for boomy bass, you should make sure the Mach3Bass is set to 0/off.  Then using one of the 4 custom EQ settings, reduce the low frequency (80 Hz or so) on the EQ a couple of notches, and then probably reduce the mid-low frequency (200-300 Hz) several notches, all to your taste.  You could raise the mid and 2 high frequency bars a bit to compensate for the strong bass.  You can also bump up the BBE+ setting and turn on the MPEnhance, both of which tend to "brighten" to sound some -- all according to your desired sound.

I use all 4 of the user EQ sets, one for each of the 4 different phones I use.  My goal is to compensate for the slight deficiencies for each phone to create a fairly balanced sound no matter what phone I use.

Wow, I thought the TF 10 already has a V-shaped sound -- your settings push that even further.  Guess your getting some serious bass and sizzle!

But doesn't that reduce the bass? I mean, I like punchy bass, but not boomy bass. Is there any way to accomplish this?
Anyway, I'll try fiddling with the eq settings when i got spare time.
Thanks :D

I am an EQing fiend guilty as charged. I think that setting was when I first got my Cowon Player. I've since revised it, still very V like though. I like to take out the mid range a touch as it brings the bass and treble forward slightly.

I have three new ones actually.

TF10

EQ

80Hz +10 Normal
220Hz +3 Normal
1.4KHz -1 Narrow
4.1KHz +5 Normal
9KHz +8 Narrow

BBE+ tab:

BBE +4

Mach3Bass +6
3D Surround +3
MP Enhance Off

SE

Stereo Enhance- Off

Reverb- Off

Vsonic GRO7 MKII

EQ

80Hz +9 Wide
220Hz +2 Normal
650Hz -1 Normal
4.1KHz +4 Normal
11.7KHz +6 Normal

BBE+ tab:

BBE +4
Mach3Bass +8
3D Surround Off
MP Enhance Off

SE

Stereo Enhance- Off
Reverb- Off

Yamaha EPH-100

EQ

80Hz +10 Normal
300Hz +1 Wide
1.4KHz 0 Normal
4.1KHz +6 Normal
11.7KHz +8 Wide

BBE+ tab:

BBE +5

Mach3Bass +4
3D Surround +3
MP Enhance Off

That's how I roll.

I have the GR06 and use them with my J3 often.  Here is the EQ I use for them:

80hz - Wide - 1
300hz - Normal - 0
1.1khz - Normal - 0
4.1khz - Normal - 2
13khz - Wide - 4

BBE - 8
Mach3Bass - 7
3D - off
MPE - On
SE - 1
Reverb - Off

Let me know what you think.
