Thanks for e-mailing me the list. I'll see if I can compile it tonight.
What time will the doors be opening? Keep in mind set-up takes awhile and people need to make several trips from their cars.

So can we start setting up at 9:15 or 9:30? Or can we not go in until 10 a.m.?

Also, how far away will the cars be parked? We will have a lot of heavy gear and ideally cars should be parked as close as possible.

You also mentioned us going out for lunch. I don't know how safe people will feel leaving their gear there unattended; I sure wouldn't with all the stuff I have. We should probably just do a breakfast with bagels and coffee at the clubhouse and then go out for dinner after we pack up.

P.S. I might just bring the Phoenix after all. Depends how close I can park and how much table space we will have. I'll need quite a bit. We will need lots of those folding tables to fit everyone's gear. Are they sturdy enough for some serious weight? Those of us with the really heavy gear should probably put it on the wood table though, as well as those with turntables.

Questions, questions. Let's see if I can put your mind at ease.

1. I will arrive 15-20 minutes early. Doors will not be open before then. I understand some set up, car trips will be necessary, but that is as early as I can get there.
2. Parking is very, very close. The first few cars will be steps from the Great Room.
3. I did not intend to imply we would be going out to lunch.

PS - I would personally love to hear the Phoenix. I wouldn't worry too much about the table situation. Counting the tables in the Board Room, there are four very solid wood tables. Then in addition to the plastic rectangular tables, there are 5' circle banquet tables which are pretty sturdy. It is not a professional set up, obviously, but for a clubhouse, I think everyone will be happy.

We have a good number of outlets, but they may not be handy to each table. Each person bringing equipment should remember to pack a power strip and extension cord they are comfortable using.

Also, I have a couple UPS's used for PC's and Servers, do you think that would be helpful if people are concern about popping circuits on expensive rigs? These are the kind of UPS devices which have battery power for 10 - 30 minutes for a couple PC's or a couple Servers (is also filtered and regulated).

I just went thru and counted between 15 and 20 or so attendees. So 2 dozen should do. And I think everyone will leave their pets at home, so no peta-dozens should be needed.

I think a few UPS devices would be great to have on hand.

If you want to use one of the wood tables, I highly recommend bringing some sort of protection for the table (tablecloth, towel, etc). I have ponied up a $500 deposit, and I would like it back. I reserve the right to NOT allow set up of equipment on unprotected wood (especially spike legged equipment) and/or to charge you on break down if there is obvious damage.

Sorry to be a nag, but if we all just use our common sense, should not be a problem.

This being the first spontaneous meeting (and only my second with CanJam 09 being first) I was wondering about appropriateness of bringing in strangers.
I have a couple of friends that enjoy a good living and over the years have had nice home theatre setups and I would like to invite them (I am thinking of three guys). Two of them live on Eastbluff in NB near your clubhouse and the other in Laguna Niguel near me.
What is the proper protocol for outsiders, not being members of Head-fi attending?

I will defer to more experienced members on this issue. You are ahead of me, since this is my first meet. Whatever the more experienced guys think is fine with me.

I will disclose that my budding audiophile teenage daughter will be stopping by and checking out the sounds, as she is looking for her first set of good cans for Christmas!

I will be bringing my Power Plant Premier, but my main power cord for that is short so I will need to be right by an outlet.

I will bring the Phoenix. It just needs about an hour of warm-up though.
And like Deadneddz, I have some very heavy gear and lots of it and need a wood table as well. I will be sharing my space with AtomikPi.

Leichnitz, a good idea is to make place cards with everyone's name on it.

No one has collared me for work on Saturday (yet) so I should be there. I will have the Zana, a few headphones and the SA8001.

I'm OK with a few non-Head-Fi'ers attending, but make sure they know the protocols. For one, no hair gel or styling goop, no fragrances, be clean, and they should treat the gear with respect. If they don't know how to operate hi-fi gear, they must ask members how to use their gear.

It's mostly common sense stuff, but no one wants their gear damaged accidentally.

Going out for lunch should probably be done in shifts - I'm fine being away as long as other Head-Fi'ers are there. It might work better, however, if we ordered food or if someone went and picked up food to bring back. Not a big deal, though, we'll talk it over and arrive at a consensus at the meet.

Forgive me for not re-reading the beginning of the thread, but is there money due aside from the deposit? We'll pass the hat and take care of it, but don't forget.

Don't worry too much about cleanup. Gear rooms tend to be clean (no food) and people are good about making sure they have everything. I'd be happy to stick around a bit to make sure everything is put back just like we found it and I'm sure other members will stick around to help, too.

Does anyone know of a good place for dinner afterwards? It should be a place that can seat a group and (preferably) has a few good beers on tap.

Hey guys! Ill definitely be there. Ill be bringing my HFI-2200s just probably around my neck since I know a lot of you have never heard them and would love to let you check them out. No need in setting up a space for me though since most of my stuff is in Germany right now (long long story). Looking forward to it, its my second meet in the USA and I´m really excited!

Understood. I know you wee speaking in generalities but as far as my firends, they are in thier 50's, one owns a billion dollar investment advisory (owned a nuclear medicine company before that) and the other is a director at a local aerospace company. These guys would be very respectful, and behaved (and slack-jawed in amazement as I was at CanJam).
