I have a strange problem that I can’t work out is a source problem or a mojo problem

I have had a AK300 for about a year and a half. Two weeks ago I bought a mojo and connect via optical to the AK300.

The problem is that every track misses about a second at the start. I have the latest fw in the AK and I tried a factory reset with no improvement.

I bought a micro usb cable to connect to the mojo instead and this works fine with no missing of tracks from the AK

I have a few problems though
1. I have a preference for the sound via optical, it being a touch warmer
2. The usb connection seems to drain the battery of the AK more quickly
3. The connection doesn’t seem as stable, had a couple of disconnects so far

So I would really prefer to use optical if I can find a solution.

Any thoughts guys ?

Thanks

I thought optical was immune to clipping the start of tracks. Going by the regular fix that's needed for Mojo hardware synchronisation.

Do you have a setting in you A&K that allows you to insert silence to allow for hardware synchronisation.

It's a really strange problem you have, being from DAP through optical. I have never heard anyone say it before. I would ask I the Official Mojo Thread if I were you. There are A&K users in the Main Official Mojo Thread.

Hi everyone, I'm a new Mojo owner. It's working great with laptop sources but I've noticed some distortion when using my 580s and an iPhone 6plus using the CCK. It seems inconsistent...if I unplug and reconnect the CCK several times I can get it to go away and sound clean. I tried searching and I know the iPhone can emit a lot of RFI. Is the CCK also known to be wonky? I know they aren't necessarily very durable but not sure if they are also this inconsistent. I've ordered a direct lighting>miniUSB cable....just waiting on it from Hong Kong.

Hi
I’m a new mojo user and am primarily using the mojo with an iPhone SE with the USB extension and the CCK.
The main issue I have noticed with the iPhone is that I occasionally get sound dropouts that seem to occur randomly. Maybe a 1/2 second dropout every 10-15 minutes. Not sure if this is related to network activity or something else in the background processes.
I don’t get any of these issues with my Mac or PC. And when I tried another DAC with the phone for a while I got a similar number of dropouts (a Schiit modi using the same CCK cable). Finally I tried another CCK cable with no change.
So I guess this is an iOS issue rather than a mojo issue, but I hope someone here has seen/solved this.

i have both a mojo and a smsl sanskirst, and when I connected both to an amp as a dac mojo was way more louder than when smsl with the amp volume being the same

the difference of volume between both dac to the amp with the volume set the same on both is very strange

can anyone explain why this is happening, and is mojo considered to be a good dac to be used with an external amp

The only explanation with all else being equal is the output voltage feeding the amp is much lower on the Sanskrit.

And yes the mojo is a very good dac and fed my Bel Canto Evo 4 amp directly in my speaker system when I owned the Mojo.

Going to pair my Mojo to an AK300 DAP. Better to go USB or Optical? Any particular cable you could recommend? After a few hours and hundreds of pages, I've gotten pretty tired. Lots of great info though.
I prefer optical, due to the lack of RF interference. With USB, you might have to use ferrite chokes.Optical is limited to 24/192. If you'd like to play DSD, USB out is the only option.

Has anybody had their Mojo's usb input come loose and entirely detach from the board? I contacted Chord who said that I need to contact the dealer, but it's been over two years and I don't think they would be of help.

Is it easy enough to solder back on? Anyone done so succesfully?

It's a shame that its usb connection wasn't implemented better to help prevent this from happening, especially as it's designed to be mobile.

I've resorted to using Optical for the time being but ideally want to get it repaired if I upgrade to another Chord Dac in the future.

I wouldn't describe the usb port as a poor implementation, there have only been a handful of users experience loose usb sockets, from 50,000+ Mojos shipped, so the failure rate is very low.

One of the cases of a detached socket, is featured in this post https://www.head-fi.org/threads/chord-mojo-issue-solutions-thread.788913/page-50#post-13719693
The pictures show that to resolder the socket, you have to solder the four legs, plus the solder pad underneath the socket, so 5 locations in all.
If any of the legs have been sheared, then you will need to replace the socket as well.
The force required to shear those legs, could also have resulted in microcracks in the circuit board - so potentially the circuit board would have to be replaced as well.
Overall, it is not really a repair, that many owners would feed confident enough to try as a DIY solution at home.

Chord have given you the correct advice to contact the dealer, who then contacts the repair centre.
If you don't want to follow that route, then open your case up, and post a picture of the damage to the usb socket on this thread. Everyone will then have additional contextual information, to help any further advice.
