Thanks @harmonix - I grabbed the first price I could see and I guess the reviewer just went with the launch price - as you say, 40K may as well be 60K for most of us. I chose the DACs in that list not because they are considerably more expensive than the Hugo, but because they all seem to have fanatical followings despite the fact that very few of us have ever heard them nor are we likely to - at least I'm not. The Hugo had a mountain of hype generated from the very first reviews, and whenever I read the old 'competes with products 10 times the price' I want real world examples. Yggdrasil is currently on a similar hype train, and I look forward to a few comparisons from people who dont have an axe to grind either way.

What does the small white disk do on the bottom of the Hugo. It doesn't seem to light up into different colours like the top one does?

In that range of the Hugo you should also consider the Auralic Vega and Ayre QB9 DSD. Both should be more common than the "uber" dacs
