Currently using my poly (with outdated firmware that I can't update, but I think that has been covered extensively ) with Roon, and I'm pretty happy. I switched to Roon basically so that I could have a nice experience playing music to the poly. But I do find Roon quite expensive for what it does, and if I can ditch it, that would be great.

I am curious what others are using to play music to the Poly over wifi? Is Roon king here, or are there options I don't know about? I want to centrally host my music, and would like a nice UI to browse and play. Music metadata would be very nice. And integration with a streaming service (any) would be a big plus.

I have a lifetime Plex pass, but PlexAmp does not play to the Poly unfortunately. And I don't really know of any other potential alternatives. Is that it, or am I missing somethning?

cheers!
I can stream Plexamp to Poly over airplay.

You can't use something like mConnect to DLNA from Plex to Poly?

I use Roon, but also have QNAP DLNA music server and Plex. Not in the same league as Roon, but not bad either.

Yes, I could, but the experience is less good. No metadata beyond what's embedded in the tracks, for instance. Last time I tried mConnect it felt quite clunky. But you are right, this is an alternative and perhaps I should give it a serious chance!

Hi,

I bought a Mojo2 almost 6 months ago for mobile use. I am mightily impressed with the sound coming out of this small device! I was not expecting this. Because of reports that Poly would improve on this especially with sd card playback, I could not resist getting a Poly. Furthermore the convenience of not having an extra cable between smartphone and Mojo2 makes it far more portable.

Indeed getting the Poly to work properly is a b....

I use an android smartphone with the Mojo2/Poly. I use Qobuz.

A have a couple of use case scenarios.
Let me start in this post with the easiest one;

While being at home I would like to listen to Qobuz. I connect to wifi with the internet modem being in the same room. I use only this modem, nothing extra. I tried using UAPP (usb audio player pro). This works perfectly without Poly connecting android smartphone to Mojo2 with a cable. But now with Poly it's almost impossible to get a track to work. 2 seconds and interruption etc. The same with BubbleUpNP, but a little better. Than I tried Mconnect which works oké, not perfect.

How are other Poly users getting Qobuz to work with Poly/Mojo2 using an android smartphone? What application are they using, is there something better than Mconnect for connecting android smartphone to Poly? Are there differences in sound quality using Mconnect or another application?

To not make this post overly complicated I will ask for other use case scenarios in another post.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I currently use Roon with Qobuz and the Poly, which is pretty seamless (unless I have network dropouts, which sometimes happens when the wind is blowing in the wrong direction or the Chord Gods are having a bad day -- usually a poly restart fixes it).

I think most people getting this decently working is with Roon (Qobuz can be connected to Roon).

That's why I commented earlier, if Chord electronics would be decent, and want to solve al the crap for everyone, they would supply everyone a free lifetime Roon subscription, because that is the only decent working way from what I have seen until now.

A deal is easily made between them, Chord can lick their wounds, and come back from this as a decent brand that solves all the issues all at once (well mostly)
Or a discount, like say at least 70% of on a lifetime subscription Roon when you buy a Poly.

My 2 use case scenarios with Mojo2+Poly devices are the following:

1. Use Mojo2 connected via usbc cable to my iphone to stream Apple music in full resolution - works perfectly with no issues. Of courses Poly not needed in this case.

2. Mojo2+Poly running in Poly hotspot mode to play MPD from Poly SD card. For this use case I use either dedicated android phone with MAFA app, or my ipad using MaximumMPD app. Both of those work well (including displaying cover art once I stored Cover.jpg files in each album folder). I feel like I have to use separate device for this because otherwise my iphone would be off internet which is not acceptible to me.

As far as sound quality playing via MPD SD card sounds better than streaming via usbc. I even listened to few albums using both methods (at least same albums in terms of same resolution) and playing via Poly sounds better to me.

You could give JPlay a try. It does Tidal and Qobuz plus high bitrates. It may be IOS only though. Looks very close to roon.

It's possible to set up the iPhone in "hybrid mode" so that it can still have an internet connection. see below
On the second point, here are my settings from an earlier post that allows you to browse the web, etc. while playing from the SD card:
Try these settings (based on an iPhone):

1) Set Poly to Hybrid Mode where Network is "Poly Hotspot Mode" and Play Mode is "Everything Else"

2) Set iPhone Settings => WiFi =>My Networks to "Poly-xxxxxx where my settings are:

I agree mConnect is a solid meh. But, you can use other DLNA apps that have better capabilities. That way you are going Plex DLNA server to the Poly directly and not using your phone or tablet as an intermediary.

You can use your cellular wireless when connected to Mojo2+Poly running in Hotspot mode.
This works well if you are using the Poly for SD card playback and you carry only one mobile phone. Instructions are for Apple, Android devices do not have the option to leave the router/gateway blank.

The Poly will have a iOS network name “Poly-########”. This is located on the iPhone’s Settings -> Wi-Fi.

Choose the small “I” in circle to the right of the Poly’s name in Network and complete the following:
*** Change “Configure IP” to manual.
Choose any 192.168.1.xxx address except 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0
Leave Router blank.

*** Configure DNS manually - 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are Google’s DNS servers and they work fine.

I also enable “Low Data Mode”

iOS will remember your settings unless you choose “Forget this Network”.

The blank gateway will allow iOS to route items destined to the internet to your cellular data instead of the Poly (which is 192.168.1.1).
Auto-Join will connect to the Poly network when it’s available and disabling Auto-Login will prevent the Poly’s internal login page.

This is the process that I use to enable hotspot mode.

1. Power on the Mojo2/Poly
2. Open Gofigure - attach to your Poly and choose Hotspot mode (top left icon), Poly will confirm and reboot.
3. Connect to Poly WiFi network in iOS. I enable Auto-Join and disable Auto-Login.
4. Use your MPD software to access the Poly’s SD card - if you set a manual IP without a Router / Gateway - you will have internet access via your iPhone’s cellular plan.

When finished - you can simply go into GoFigure and disable Hotspot mode - I usually just choose “Airplane / Bluetooth” mode, confirm and let the Poly reboot. Then turn off your Mojo2/Poly.

While this somewhat intricate - it allows you to use your iPhone with the Poly with cellular data.
This config is working as of iOS 18.2.1.

I also have to post a very positive experience with the Sound Organization’s Rick Williford.

I sent my Poly on for a new battery and the entire process was seamless. They completed the work and my Poly is working perfectly and returned to me in less than one week.
They even re-positioned the optical light that can fall out if you take apart your device.

I’ve written a couple of posts regarding the Poly’s battery and how to replace it. I would recommend using the Sound Organization or any other Chord approved vendor if you want your device resorted it it’s original health.

The new battery from the Sound Organization charges to 100% and discharges about 10-12 percent per hour of use - just like it was new.
Plus I retained my original battery and its connector - so I can attempt to create a on/off toggle switch for the Poly battery. If I’m successful - I’ll post it here.

The Sound Organization email is “support (at) soundorg.com”.

To be honest, I don't use the Poly and Qobuz alone on android. It's just easier to plug the Mojo2 in directly or use another solution when I'm traveling. iOS is a little more friendly with Qobuz integration, but still not great. To me, it's not worth getting the little extra sound quality the Poly provides for the aggravation android gives for non chromecast devices.

You are stuck with using an app on android that somehow integrates the Qobuz API and transmits via airplay or DLNA to the Poly.

At home, I use Roon and don't look back. I literally have no issues with Roon and the Poly. The only time I may have an issue is if I turn on the Mojo2 and the Poly doesn't recognize the power on. That's not a frequent event.

I just downloaded that and it seems to work well although it only seems to want to use the top level music folder on the NAS as its source where all mine is in a Plex folder somewhere else. I chucked a few files in there and it sent them to the Poly, no problem. £50 a year, though so I probably won't hang on to it after the 14 day trial.
