With all the hype of the M8 and the HP being 2 years old, which for electronics is longer than 24 months would be for other technology, I expect a game changer in the M8. Maybe I'm being unrealistic?

You mean it's not... Portable. Nirvana. ??!

I think it would have been helpful to know the tone control settings used for the Headfonia audition.  Besides, the whole idea of having bass and treble adjustments is so that we all can find our own "tonal sweet spots."

I'd urge folks to relax a little bit about the Headfonia impressions and expectations about the M8 in general.  Listening at meets can give you rough estimations about how things sound, but they are so noisy, you are listening to someone else's headphones and music, plus every reviewer has their own preferences in sound.  Someone preferring one device over another doesn't mean that the non-preferred device is bad.  It was one guy's impressions.  Other people's impressions have been quite favorable so far.

Possibly not my place to be pitching in, since opinions are concerned here and not data. But obviously, we've worked hard to give you the best we can. I think Michael at headphonia needs to take a second look and a second listen... We will make sure this happens soon.

Meantime, more impressions will be available at Newport next weekend, indeed.

I am in room 532 The Chapman Loudspeaker room, Michael...let's toss it into the system after hours- or let me get a loaner for a day to check it out. We have a great DAC in the system now that I am happy to say is producing real convincing music...not digital facsimiles , the MSB Analog DAC has some great synergy.

Just curious.  Has the finished dimensions changed from what was put up on the original product page (which is whats posted at the beginning of this thread)?  I was looking at a Pelican 1060 case:

...as it looks like the 1050 will be too small.

I wrote to Centrance a week ago and asked them to confirm the finished products specs so I could put them on the front page.
They are busy with work and shows, so they will reply when they have some extra time

If we ask nicely, will one of the attendees to THE Show provide some listening impressions of the M8? Please...

My take on "redefines" and "game changer" - nice marketing words that should be considered for anyone marketing a nice product.  Centrance and Mr. Goodman are no slouches at marketing.

What I expect - A really nicely built, high quality product that will pull digital from an iDevice, usb and with optical with the LX, and put out very good, balanced, amplified analog sound.  My experience with CEntrance products is only with the Dacport and Dacport LX.  From these, I expect a sound (at least with the sound shaping off) that comes as close as they are able to get to being the proverbial "wire with gain."  I expect some interesting tone shaping - I hope it is actually good tone shaping, and not heavy handed - low expectations on this one...

What I don't expect - a device that will rock my world, change everything I thought I knew about portable audio, redefine headphone listening or actually change any game.

I'm good with what I expect, and good with what I don't expect.
