Hi all,

Does anyone here has RU7 and Mojo 2?

Would I get any significant sonic upgrade by investing in Mojo 2 with my IEM’s?

Take care,
Denis

I have both and enjoy them equally. i find the Mojo2 to be more linear with a slight increase in clarity and the RU7 smoother. I use the RU7 on the go with my iphone 14 pro and the Mojo2 as a desktop solution at work. Also remember the Mojo2 is more feature rich to tweak the sound to your liking - it is tricky at first will the orbs & colors but once you get it down it is a nice addition.

This for sure... though I confess for pure enjoyment factor, I find the RU7 just as satisfying as the M2...have also used it as a LO into my Vioelectric and liked what I heard a lot. A really nice piece of kit overall. Good luck.

Would anyone be able to recommend a mobile DAC Amp that would be sonically a significant upgrade from RU7?

(Excluding Hugo 2 as I had it and dont want to use anoying micro USB anymore)

Have you tried to use it with a portable amp in line out mode? That's a very significant upgrade and I don't think any portable DAC/amp combo can really compete.

Hello everyone. My RU7 heats up very much. Is it normal?
Previously I was using Ibasso DC06 which didnt heat up, but RU7 is heating up quite much. Maybe that's why they have provided that cover by themselves, to hide that heating up.
I use mine without the case via my laptop when working. I also use it in DSD256 mode, and it only get very mildly warm, like barely at all - even when plugged in and used for several hours.

Unlike most delta-sigma architecture dongles, the RU7 follows a 1-bit DAC structure. To put it simply, it’s packed with 128 pcs (4 x 32) resistors. Based on this, all digital audio signals are converted to the designated DSD format (DSD64/DSD128/DSD256 depending on your setting) before being fed into the 1-bit DAC circuit.

If you’re using ALL TO DSD256 for example, this means the RU7 is processing at 256 times the CD audio sampling rate of 44.1 kHz, which can lead to mild heat generation compared to other dongles, but generally speaking, just mildly as mentioned above, the temp. difference isn’t typically huge.

Maybe you can try lowering the "ALL TO DSD" setting and see if that helps reduce the heat.

I'm currently used my Ru7 in LO mode to a Schiit Midgard amp using full size headphones only. This is my secondary setup that is "semi-mobile" so I can get the gear out of a drawer and sit on the couch. Curious if anyone has any opinion if a standalone DAC of roughly the same price range (ex Schiit Modius or Multibit 2) would yield better sound quality or if I'd really need to spend quite a bit more to take enough of a step up. I'm not using the DAC on the go so going to a desktop DAC is fine but it is easier for me to just move around this amp and a dongle vs two pieces of gear.

Thanks!

I used to run my RU7 the same way you're doing right now, it's absolutely at that level and beyond. To give context, I was comparing the RU7 to my Cyan 2 and the RU7 compared favorably to the Cyan 2 with no upsampling of course, is that good.

Thanks for your input. My brain was leading towards that train of thought and I’d be going down a rabbit hole unnecessarily unless I was willing to put down more money. Currently using the set up with my ZMF Atriums while I wait for my ZMF bokeh to ship. That will be a “semi-mobile” cans.
