Cayin RU7: 1-Bit Resistor Network Dongle DAC /Amp

Guys, for those who have the RU7 presumably connected to the phone, do you listen to the device with or without EQ? If with EQ what is the app that you use to adjust the EQ?

The reason of the question is I found the KA15 with user-adjustable PEQ via FIIO's app to consistently sound better than the RU7 (with EQ applied using the Wavelet app). Without any EQ, the KA15 sounds very ordinary or unspectacular. Ditto the RU7. The PEQ makes a big difference to the overall sound presentation of the KA15.

EQ generally fixes and improves the audio of headphones significantly more than any piece of gear you can possibly buy, and on desktop it's free.

I've been looking for a good PEQ app for Iphone but as of yet, I haven't found any that does what I want.

It's my intention to not use any EQ if possible with any device / DAC dongle. However, both RU7 and KA15 sound noticeably or significantly better when used with EQ.
I only use my RU7 in line out mode with an external amp, even on the go. I don't think EQ can be a improvement compared to that configuration.

May I ask which amp is it?

If both device sounds a lot better with EQ, that might imply your IEMs or headphones are not the best match to your audio preference and you need to rely on EQ to "correct" the output so that it/they match your preferred signature.

In my testing I haven't found that it degrades sound quality, on the contrary, I can change from EQ to bypass it completely on something like PEACE(you have to be careful tho with that bypass button because if you're applying a lot of pre-amp negative gain, it can be a nasty surprise to say the least) and I have heard the difference, in many cases is like lifting a veil that was muffling all the detail out of some headphones.

Of course with the quantity of different EQ solutions there are and many different configurations and settings that you can choose from, it's possible it can happen, on PEACE if I turn on the convolution filters it definitively degrades the sound quality considerably, also changing for minimum phase to linear can do the same in something like the matrix pipeline on HQPlayer, it's definitively an advance user this EQ business, if you don't know what you're doing, you can degrade considerably the SQ of your headphones.

My Cayin RU7 has just arrived, however it is totally bricked and does not work with any device.
When connected it gets recognised as "comtrue-inc firmware update device".

The screen and UI on the device is operational, it just does not get recognised as an audio device.

Tried on Android / Macos / Windows.

Purchased from official Cayin store on Aliexpress.

So dissapointing.

Send them a message, it should be easily recoverable by just flashing firmware.

I received mine today, also from Cayin store on Ali, it works fine when I connect to iPad with the cable comes with it,
But the volume control is a bit odd that on iPad I turn it up to full, and on RU7 I set to 45, when I lower iPad volume, it gets louder and louder!
Didn’t read manual or usage, not sure if this is normal.

My RU7 is having pop sound during playing, is it iem specific or a defect?

Edit: could be due to my cheap power bank when I use split cable, I will find out more.
