Cayin N8ii: The Incredible DAP with ROHM DAC and fully BAL Nutube

Hey guys. I bought this cheap case for the DX300 last year. The N8ii fits very well, so I thought I'd share. (I wouldn't put anything in the lid.)

Edit: there is some room for the player to move. I don't mind that but if you do this is not a suitable case for you, or you'd have to fill it up with eg some foam.

I also Love the volume knob! Am I alone ? Or maybe I am used to the Ibasso Dx300 horrid volume knob…lol, so this here is amazing to the feel, the touch, well placed and isolated
You're not alone! I like it too. Just enough play. Feels good. Even when I toss it upside down in my jeans pocket (I crazy) the volume rarely gets bumped, which I thought would happen all the time and be an issue. It's mostly not.

Also, just running the dap as it should be run, sans burn in, the heat is fine as long as you understand the limits physics places on shrunken powerhouses. The sound does get better after 30 mins or after it's warmed up a bit. A little more precise and "real".

Definitely agreed, and what is crazier ? I can even slip my hand down to adjust the wheel to my liking too!!! But I don’t wear Jean though, more like lose Jogging pants

@Andykong assuming you speak with hiby, can you ask for them to push enabling of album artist when using hibylink?

Could you also enquire if it would be possible to make an addon for Garmin? Would be pretty neat being able to control play/pause/skip and even volume through your watch. Garmin already supports this for amazon/spotify etc...

super nice but a bit too big for me.
I listen mainly at home, so size isn't quite as important. I have a feeling I'll own this someday.

@Andykong what's the highest DSD resolution that N8ii supports? Since N8ii is not yet on the DSD.com device support matrix yet they have N8 and N6ii capped at DSD256
DSD512, as stated in opening post:

To maxima the performance of the digital audio circuit, our FPGA enhanced and reorganized the incoming digital signal and passed the audio bit-stream to two pieces of BD34301EKV in mono mode. N8ii can decode up to 32Bit/768kHz with PCM, and 1Bit/22.6 MHz (DSD512) with DSD. It offers two low-pass antialiasing filters (PCM mode) and three DSD Filters are available to fine tune sound signature.

LOL no it'll be awhile.... transferred 183gb of MP3 44/320 and FLAC 192s earlier. Now transferring 463gb DXD, DSD 256-512s from NativeDSD.

Card I used earlier was a 512gb Sandisk Extreme Pro that I popped out of my 3MAX temporarily for burn in.

I am curious too, what if any difference in sound between the SanDisk Extreme and MicronSD ? and what were the speeds?
I believe I experienced a smoothness and a slight improvement in extension changing from 512Gb 100mb/sec SamsungSD to 1TB SanDisk Extreme 160mb/sec.
If the MicroSD is better I want to try it😉

I'm going to pop on my flame suit, but finally getting around popping in the Micron. First listening impression on various DSD256, 512 and FLACs - was everything sounds more crisp, focused, subtle instruments more noticeable. I'm going to eat cake but I'm impressed @Whitigir.

Here's the specs on Micron C7MS-1WT

And Sandisk Extreme Pro

  • Both up to 100MB/s** read speed
  • Extreme Pro write speed up to 90MB/s** versus Micron Industrial 39MB/s
I'm going to leave it up to each individual to decide their memory cards selection.

From the Rainforest. Spare I never returned when I was looking for a case for MAX. Turns out to be the perfect fit for N8ii, has a soft material liner in the bottom as well which is nice. Elastic seems well stitched in, see how long it lasts, case feels pretty rigid. Other half has the usual netting for cables etc.

Did it fit the max? If so, do you have a link?

I never even took it out of the packaging as the other I bought had the foam inserts and this looked like it would be pretty tight tbh. N8ii fits in pretty snug, little bit of space around it but held in reasonably tight, not much play. It's also reasonably deep which combined with the rigidity puts my mind at rest. I'll grab a link later on, should have sizing on the ad.

Just make doubly sure that one buys the 'Industrial' version of the Micron card. The 'WT' version. As it's very easy to choose the wrong card when one looks at all the selections.
