Ah, that rings the bell, if I remember it right, it was 2018 when we launched the original HA-300?
Yes, ringing artifacts is tedious, and they are almost inevitable when you apply a filter. Both NOS R-2R and 1-Bit DAC basically get rid of filters and get away from ringing effect.
Bingo Andy. Yes it was a great exchange of ideas and I've mentioned you and Cayin ot many of my high end dealers who do and don't sell portable gear (just high end cans). You are dead on about filtering. My Nyquist filters are minimal. My Ayre QX5/20 was the same as their designer, Ariel doesn't believe in too much filtering. I know Helmut Brinkmann uses the same minimal filtering on my Nyquist. This is one reason I have a ton of interest in the N7 as it's a sweet sport price range for me and I liked your 8ii I heard at EEarphones in Jan better than all. The top Sony was second for me and I liked both over the SP3000 (and I've only owned AK DAP's in my life as some of my dealers sell them adn asked me to audition).
Discrete components take longer to settle down when compare to Op-Amp or highly integrated IC in general. Although the N7 has more discrete components than other DAPs, the burn-in duration probably remains the same when compared to, for example, N8ii. However, the degree or the magnitude of changes will be more dramatic.
Mine arrives tomorrow, I can hardly wait,
I wanted a really high quality DAC segment to drive the HIFIMAN Shangri-la Jr Electrostatics headphone energizer! My N8ii is doing a great job so far but I am really curious how the N7 will improve on that.
Haha, ja I have a stash of 1TB Micron i300 microSDs, not hurting on storage yet, and looking forward to the new 1.5tb Micron i400s but not the sticker price, LOL.
i couldn’t resist it and ordered a few days ago. should arrive tomorrow. i am very excited. i hope it will be a good upgrade after a bit dated n6ii r01 (even though i got it new last year)
one problem (for me) though; i am quite new to this world and with n6ii i am mostly streaming (qobuz). i don’t have really tons of hi-rez files as much as i would like. and the ones i have are generally aiff files 16/44.1. however, to unleash the full potential of the new n7, i kind of feel i should look into music that is recorded in dsd512 format to avoid noise/jitter creation during conversions.
i recently read an article that claims so.
here’s the article https://www.mojo-audio.com/blog/dsd-vs-pcm-myth-vs-truth/
where would you guys recommend i should look into for finding such files ? any online stores ? any dsd streaming ?
if i were to play dsd1024 on n7, would it be able to play it as is or compress it to 512 ?
This is NOT an R-2R DAP, The 1-bit DSD DAC is a totally different digital decoding technology when compare to R-2R. This is like comparing Tiramisu with New York Cheesecake, while both recipes involve cheese, egg, and sugar, the process and the outcome are very different. Likewise, while you can find resistor network and FPGA in both R-2R DAP and 1-bit DAP, they "cook" their music differently, and deliver music and emotion differently. However, if you are only a consumer, you probably won't care about the recipe, it's the deliverables that matter, right?
Ok thanks for the clarification. I wanted an R2R DAP. I already have the Cayin N8ii and hoped this was going to be an R2R like the one amp module for the N6ii but I couldn’t decipher if it was or not. I appreciate your help mate.
