Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP

I’ve been enjoying the A02 +C9 combo for the past few days. This is the best, most articulate combo I’ve heard in recent memory. Desktop class sound from something so small! I can see why @Whitigir praises it so much. What a shame A02 isn’t available for more folks to buy!

Well done Cayin, C9 has never sounded better.

Agreed. I've been on a R01 roll, but returned to A02/C9 this afternoon. Dang, it pairs so good with the ZMF VC. You're right: desktop sound in a pint size portion.

Don't hate on the Rick Springfield (darker than you might think):

OG Solaris also sounds wonderful and gains a beautifully thick and wet lower midrange with R01. Sounds like playback from a 2" tape machine in the studio. Seriously. The Ti has, for the moment at least, knocked the M8 out of my 1st place pairing spot. R2r may have ruined my ears now. Thanks Cayin, you have made future DAP purchases a very easy affair for me, lol. If it isn't r2r moving forward, I likely will not be interested.

Agreed. Just ordered an R2R desktop dac on the basis of how impressed I was with R01.

Which R2R desktop dac did you go with?

There is a big difference between C9 and amp9  I think I used amp9 for no more than 15min, and set it aside. The level of noise floor was unbearable with many iems.
Do you still have the Plenue L? If so, how does it compare to the R01 in terms of sound?

It's a bit of an adventure to get to PL. First, I had to revisit my old reviews as a reference to figure out which one is the latest P2 vs PL because they look close enough, then I had to find micro-usb cable to charge PL :D

Overall, they have a similar natural tonality, leaning more toward the warmer organic side of tuning. But there are someb differences. N6ii/R01 soundstage spreads a little wider L to R, and also R01 has a noticeably better imaging where sounds are more spread/separated in space while in PL they are closer together toward the center. Also, tested with Traillii, the bass has a little more boost with PL. Another noticeable difference is R01 having a blacker background.
