Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP

So when you connect the N6ii up to a Mac via a USB cable, does it show up as a drive on the Mac? I’ve had issues connecting Android devices to my iMac and Android File Transfer breaks Bluetooth on my Mac. If it does just appear as another drive then all will be well.

What I do is I don’t connect the N6ii, I insert the SD card into iMac’s memory card slot and just do a straight copy from Finder. If you do have Apple Music and have the “Sync Library” turned on, you can also download Apple Music app from Google Playstore and have your music there. But since Apple Music app is using N6ii’s internal storage (including downloaded songs for offline listening), it will be limited to the available space in your N6ii’s storage.

Dear Guys,

I have read through almost all postings from the beginning, and my n6ii +A01 is actually on the way.. I'm located in austria and found a dealer in Germany which was willing to trade in my AK240.
I'm very curious how much upgrade this is, compared to my actual ibasso dx160.. (which I like very much due to almost unbeatable price/performance ratio)

I have 4 questions which I could not find to be answered already:

1. Is a 1tb card working without any issues?
2. Does poweramp work properly on the unit? I use poweramp as I could not find any other player being able to handle my big collection with acceptable scanning time and proper genre reading..
3. On my dx160 I have approx. 85000 mp3 files (about 6700 Albums) in 320 kBit/s properly running (using poweramp) . Does anyone have experience with the n6ii and this amount of tracks.
4 this might be a little off topic but does anyone know another android music player for n6ii which can handle this amount of tracks AND is able to read multiple genre tags divided by ";" ?

Thanks for all your contribution so far. All your initial discussions made me buy the cayin, hoping to get something special in my hands..

Kind regards from Austria
Andy

As I want to use uapp player, and I could not find a way to install it without the playstore

Overall balance of the E01 seems excellent. There was never boominess nor muddiness, even if treble was not overly extended. This is a module that sounds like an excellently tuned tube system. Although I enjoyed the AB mode more than A mode because of its airness and punch, A mode still had a sweet musicality. The most amazing discovery for me was that the sound stage of the E01 for me was both extremely deep and extremely wide, much more so than on almost any system I have listened to to-date. This was especially true with the pairing with the Amiron. The soundstage, for some reason I cannot pinpoint, sounded absolutely huge. Instruments were out of my head and layering was clear and lush. Bohemian Rhapsody was a near religious experience. I finished my listening sessions with Paranoid Android by Radiohead and the final vocal and musical passages absolutely soared as if from a great height.

One caveat - as a previous reviewer mentioned, I kept the E01 on high gain for both the W80's and the Amiron, even though the W80's are extremely easy to drive. The E01 seemed to open up the more gain that was fed to it.

Did you find that the E01 drove the Amirons sufficiently well?

I'll be joining the Cayin N6ii club in the next week or two. I've managed to get a deal on a new N6ii with E01 module for a pretty good price. I couldn't get the bundle deal (T01 + E01) at a price that was within my budget so I settled on the module that is supposed to provide decent sound quality (at the expense of battery life). I may buy the T01 and A01 modules separately in the future.

It took the best part of the day asking questions over the phone and WhatsApp to the supplier who was very patient and answered all of my questions. My key aims were bit-perfect replay in Tidal and Qobuz (I understand that full MQA is not supported on the N6ii), Qobuz (+ offline) and Tidal (+ offline).

Question: Are there any particular micro-SD cards that work well with the N6ii or would something like a SanDisk Ultra 400 GB microSDXC memory card be fine?
im using a scan disk 400gb at the moment , without issues :)

Does anyone use the Line Out feature on the N6ii to feed a dedicated headphone amp to drive higher impedance headphones more easily? I've got an Arcam rHead that hasn't been used for a while and I used to use it with my Amiron Home headphones to a very pleasing effect. I know there isn't a Line Out on the E01 module, but I believe there is on the A01 module.

As I don't have my N6ii yet, I was curious as to the sound quality from the Line Out.

Its all much easier once you have it.

I received the N6ii today and began playing with it right away. It is an open box demo unit with T01 board. I have used the Cayin music app and am listening with Hiby right now. As far as sound from the two apps I cannot tell the difference. The user interface is just about the same too. Speaking about UI I find this android dap a pleasure to use compared to other android units I have tried or own. It seems stable and quick with no issues...so far. I am not a streamer or usb/dac user so you won't find me commenting on those features. But I put a fully loaded 512gb Samsung card in there and both apps read it and all that with ease and speed, nicely done. So the sound, I don't know what kind of burn-in use this unit has had but when I first turned it on and settled on a track to start the shuffle with I used the Utopia. The smile and toe tapping was right there. This thing sounds really good to me. Same with the Klipsch HP-3, clearly a little bass biased, just a fun and enjoyable sound. No regrets so far or expected. After burning this card for a bit I have a new E01 to install. And since I have a couple other ESS9038PRO devices the comparison should be interesting for sure.

I've been seeing a number of people posting about new custom firmware for their Sony 1a/1zs. Does the n6ii have anything similar?

Thats because , 1. It sounds bad , 2. No power , 3. Cant change amp , 4. Cant change dac. Plus cant use the 15 other music playing apps.

Wish I could agree in the first point, I agree the Sony doesn’t have the modularity nor the power as the n6ii but damn are those firmware making it mighty impressive, soundstage and clarity are outstanding, they did made it sound epic

As much as I wished the n6ii had the option for modded firmware upload as the Sony, I don’t think it’s possible. Nevertheless it still has the modularity option and is worth every single penny, e01 has thicker and a more fulfilling sound than the wm1a but the Sony house sound is one to admire on its own, and the firmware’s are making that 3 year old dap sound mighty good
