Cayin N5ii Android based Master Quality Digital Audio Player

Dear CayinSupport!
Please, fix this screwing seeking speed! I listen to lot of music every day and track seeking is too fast. It works well only "on the paper" but in real life it is unable to use this function. And don't advice me to use progress-bar and touch screen: this palyer has very-very bad touch sensor and if you want to skip few minutes of long song (like disk image) it is unreal. I'm talking about basic functionality, not about something extra ordinary. Please, make it useful!!! Make it exacly like in N3 and we will happy.
It's fairly easy to get used to the seeking speed. To skip short parts i hold down for a very short period of time. Basically, before the song starts skipping I have already lifted my finger.

Bottom line,
Learn how to use it.

Better to rely on yourself than others

As I wrote before, with current seeking speed I can skip 55 min track in 2.5 seconds (with buttons)! Do you think it's adequate? I don't.
Oh I see the problem now, the player will finish skipping an entire track in a set time.

That could mean a 30 second advance per second for shorter tracks or a 30 minute advance for long tracks.

Recently I added more files to my N5ii library. Around 4-5 albums, all in lossless formats.

And there goes the legendary bug: random freeze and restarting.
It was never happen before I added this files.

Now I can confidently saying, it is definitely the file management issue.
This firmware needs big improvement on processing file. I thought it might be related to too much background processes beyond this device's hardware capacity.

So far I have never encountered the restart bug, only the freezing bug.

How many files do you have?

Still around 2000-3000 files.
Definitely not exceed 3000 files.

The restart bug usually appears randomly when I'm pausing the music using physical button, and when I'm back to resume it, it's just do nothing, blank off screen, and suddenly restart itself.

Then it can't be because of the file management. I have two micro SD cards in my N5ii and far more songs than you.

Slot 1 - 200GB card for standard and some high resolution audio files. 11337 songs.

Slot 2 - 128 GB card exclusively for high resolution audio songs. 2438 songs.

Have you tried clearing cache? That solves most problems for me. Never had to use a factory reset so far.

I did.
It was solved for a while and after couple days it's happened again.
Not a big deal for me though. I could live with while waiting for the next FW.

I have been wanting to try out a clear cache theory but after the my last clearing the player has been very stable. Freezing rarely happens, blue colour change happens very rarely and can be solved with a simple screen on off.

Anybody want to try put my theory?
You just have to clear cache before you go to bed and keep the player on(screen can be off, charge it if you want).

Basically it's to let the player have as little resources drain as possible while it builds up its cache so a very clean and stable cache can be built up.

This is just my personal speculation - because clear cache is able to suppress the bugs for a while, that means the bugs are caused by a buggy cache.

With regard to adding files and then having problems, here is something that sometimes helps. On my unit it is really easy to corrupt the "file system" on individual memory cards. With Windows 10, I periodically run chkdsk. There is also a program called DiskFresh that I have used for similar reasons.

Transferring files to and from this unit is a buggy process right now. I am not entirely sure that Cayin intends to address it.

Last time I brought up the USB issues Cayin simply pointed me to a section in this long thread about USB issues. The long discussion left me with the impression that the USB subsystem was not particularly well implemented in the hardware design.

I still think some software tweaks can subdue most of the problems.

I have been left with the impression that Cayin is not even trying to fix the USB transfer issues which is a problem in its own right. Maybe Cayin can pipe in and set the record straight.

I have not transferred anything very big via USB to my N5ii but for standard flac soundtrack albums (300-500mb) it works flawlessly. It's a bit slow at 5-8 mbps average though.

As for the file system corruption I have had a crazy amount of issues throughout the past few years. The FiiO X1 was the worst in particular. Had to reformat the micro SD cards 5-6 times in 2 years due to "this drive needs to be formatted before it can be used" error.

In regard of this 'problem': There are many factors you should take into account concerning quality of controller of microsd card itself, size of claster you choose to format your card (and type of format as well), windows mount/unmount bugs of any additional disks/volumes, type of tranfer (you put card in adapter and tranfer your files from your pc OR you stream them directly to sdcard in player slot) etc. But of course you can blame Cayin straight - it is easier:baby:

I have no any issues with this player at all. It is perfect. May be I do something wrong?

First of all, I am pleased for you that you have no problems. Believe me, I would rather have no problems also. I already unmount the unit with great care by going into the Windows machine and disconnecting via software.

If everything runs perfectly for you, here is a test. Try moving a fair amount of data from one memory card to another when hooked to your PC. Does that go well for you? If so, you are a lucky person. After about 200 mb I almost always have some kind of an issue or crash.

Ive had issues with USB mode to transfer flacs from Macbook Pro to sdcards within N5ii - seems to end up either going mega slow, or just stalling completely. A workaround which seems to work for me is to switch from USB mode to MTP mode, and use something like Android File Transfer on my mac. No slowdown or stalling issues.
