Cayin N5 DAP - Product Info (Post #2), Resources (Post #3) and Discussion

So this is a new instance. Lets explore the condition in more detail.

The issue is when you changed the setting of Custom EQ, then go to EQ Off, played two songs, and then switch back to Custom EQ, the EQ setting that you just adjusted are gone and the Custom EQ fall back to previous setting? or the Custom EQ always fall back to zero dB at all frequency setting?

I have just test the Custom EQ setting and my steps are as follow:

  1. Play a song from TF
  2. Set Custom EQ to a very abnormal pattern to make sure this is the test setting
  3. Press Return key to Quit from Custom EQ setting mode
  4. Continue to play song,
  5. Check later, new Custom EQ is correct
  6. Power off and power on again, play music
  7. Check Custom EQ setting again, still in place, all frequency setting is as setup in (2)

I need to repeat your error before I can file the case for trouble shooting and push for a solution or a firmware adjustment, so lets see if we can repeat the error here.

Hi Andy.
The error occurs without any pattern, always on a 48Hz song, but also on others. It plays well and suddenly the sound changes but not the EQ (visually I mean). The 2 kHz band is concerned only.
Plus every time I switch the player off, it doesn't keep the custom EQ as preset and always goes back to eq off. I must say that it's not a big deal but annoying :)
Thanks for your help.

Still impressed by N5's performance. Areas like refinement are ahead of iBasso DX80, separation ahead, bass response, and the real killer is whatever internals Cayin are using give the player a specific timbre which sounds quite classy playing the correct music. I heard similar 'house sound' from Cayin N6. I'm not saying N5 is the best DAP but its design, (especially design) which wins my attention for a non touchscreen player, the features, dual card slots etc make it a really cool toy

Interesting. I'll be getting DX80 in Monday to burnin and test out ahead of the Portland meet. Curious to see if our thoughts align.

So, one thing I need help with is getting the N5 to remember which song I was on when it hibernated. It remembers for awhile but after a while (not exactly sure how long) it forgets. Any thoughts on what settings to need to tweak to fix this? Or is it just something I need to learn to live with? Andykong

So you get to try the DX80 ha Nik? Make sure to give it a whirl with the IDSD Micro while your at it. I contemplating getting this with the Mojo or the Opus #1 or the DX200.

Makes you wish the upcoming i5 would have optical out.  Maybe i7 will? What do you say, @Andykong?

Im going to ask here as it seems busier than the N6 thread.

Im looking to sell my N6 after getting a mojo but not had much interest in it.  Im rethinking selling and using it with the Mojo but unsure what cable i need.

On the N6 there is a coax out and a cable with a 3.5mm to female RCA phono.  Can i use this cable to plug into the mojo http://www.amazon.co.uk/SuperWhole-3-5mm-audio-Cable-Plated/dp/B0114A7QGU?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=A3ESLU4NR2Z9UZ

or can i use this direct from the coax out to the optical in on the mojo http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SWYU92U/ref=pd_luc_rh_sbs_02_04_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 or this not sure if they are different http://www.amazon.co.uk/FosPower%C2%AE-Plated-Toslink-Digital-Optical/dp/B00T8HWUVS?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A1KYH34FY2ZBQA

or have i got it totally wrong and need a completely different cable / adapter for use with the N6

The first option will work, but it will be long and unwieldy. The other options are for an optical output/input and won't work at all with the N6 (pulses of light with optical and pulses of voltage for coaxial). Try using a short, quality, regular stereo interconnect cable. It works with the FiiO X5, iBasso DX90, and should work with the N6. You have to understand that a regular stereo interconnect is not 75 Ohm standard and does not have the same coaxial shielding, but at such short lengths you should not be able to notice any reflections or RF noise.

The standard pin configuration for a 3.5mm TS coaxial plug is the tip is the signal and the sleeve is the ground. If using a regular stereo interconnect cable then the tip is the signal the ring is the ground and the sleeve is ignored.

You can also look for a 3.5mm TS mono coaxial cable. I'm not sure exactly where to find one but I'm sure they are out there for a reasonable price. You can also use an RCA to 3.5mm adaptor plug to deal with the RCA end in your first link if you want as well.

The next option is to purchase a custom cable that is 75 Ohm coaxial standard from someplace like Moon Audio, but they are expensive. Or you can make your own if you are handy. There is a wealth of information in the third post of the Mojo thread, including links to cable solutions for coaxial input.

The N6 has coax out, and mojo has coax in, so I believe it is the matter of finding the right cables. They seem to share the same mono-coax, so it should be just the matter of getting the cable with both 3.5mm male mono terminal.

Hopefully 2 or more mSD slots as for me its a must now. I see that the LPG and Opus traded spots on your Signature.

Yeah, would have been great if i5 can squeeze in dual uSD like in dx80/opus, takes the same width in space, but does affects the thickness.  Regarding LPG vs Opus, I don't want to derail N5 thread, and I posted some comments about it here where we can continue the discussion or you can PM me

I enjoy having two slots on a player, though I still only use a single 32GB cards on most of my DAP. Think I went pro on one of them, the big upgrade to 64gb about half full. I just don't listen to a wide enough range of music.

The countdown has started :D :D :D

But you probably won't be seeing me online in next few days, I can really feel the burn now. :p
