Cayin N3Ultra: an Entry-level Portable DAP that Delivers a Complete Vacuum Tube Audio Experience
Apr 28, 2024 at 1:37 AM Post #601 of 698
The N3 Ultra is a very resolving DAP , more so than my A&K Kann Max that's huge praise.

Anyone looking for a super warm experience look elsewhere in comparison my Shanling M8 and even more so now the M5 Ultra gives a much warmer smoothed over sound.

Me I am tickled pink . Modern tube 20240426_184700.jpgmode 4.4 Out to the XDUOO XD05 Pro is a surreal experience.
This is helpful, thank you. I'm going to need to add the M5 Ultra to my Shanling collection. This will be my 4th, but I've been sold on their sound for a while now.

I believe I answered that when I said "Too much information overload" Its the wrong pairing with the N3U so big thumbs down.

The DTE900 is aggressive in the upper mids and treble so the N3U really reveals all the information in a even more forward manner especially in Tube mode.

The M5U with its warmer signature balances the upper mids by taming them down a bit and smooths out the entire playback. Big thumbs up with the DTE900

On the other side of the coin the Myer-Audio CKLVX D41 and the Shanling ME600 are surreal on the N3 Ultra, with super revealing DAP'S you need to be mindful of your chain.

I certainly don't think there is any hard and fast rule, all our ears are different as is our tastes. It a subjective hobby.
I just tried the Hiby R6 Pro II and loved it because it was "hyper revealing" in a way. And my iems are already some of the most clear and detailed on the market.

The N3 Ultra is next on my list.

Hello! Good morning or good evening depending on each country.😉

As the hours spent listening go by, my mind maps the synergy between the N3U, the ISN CS02 cable and the NEO 5 that I love so much. The N3U matures towards exquisite warmth. My last musical session with this equipment was done without exceeding a volume of 22 (without EQ or PEQ), incredible! If I tell the truth, my truth of course, I lose the desire to improve or scale any of the parts that make up this team.

I take this moment to thank the Cayin team for the development of this DAP gem, I really love it and I'm happy with that. At the moment I can't find any errors. You play your favorite album, close your eyes and relax, because that's what it's all about, right?!

I am very grateful to this forum. 🤗

That might work, I can't verify it as I only have the N8 which has bluetooth, however if not you could try connecting a bluetooth receiver like the A&K PB1 to the N3U and then streaming from the N7 to the HB1, would be interested to know if you try it.

Thank you. But would like to use USB C digital output from N7 to N3U for best SQ. I have been trying several times with different cables, but it didn’t work well.

regarding the firmware update, is it not possible or not viable to add a "Album Artist" category as mentioned by quite a few people in previous posts?

I was hopefull the ring light would have gotten a tweak to use night mode to lower its brightness. The other fixes are a welcome change.

Ah well, we don't really need it, sliding a finger along the bottom edge, activates the button just fine. Knowing myself, now that it stays off after restarting the player, I'll probably turn it back on 😁

Album art thumbnails continue to be problematic. I went through all my albums and tracks to resize the embedded art to 500x500 and on some screens there is a thumbnail, on other screens the same album art thumbnail does not show at all. I guess instead of rescanning, maybe it's better to wipe the database and scan from scratch? Not even sure if that will resolve anything.
