Yep - both are Android. I can’t remember with the X3iii (away from home at the moment). I know it worked with the F9 volume controls. Will test when I get home with the HD630VB

Hi all,
Got the N3 as Gift for Christmas an i am really happy with it.
But i have a question, i don't know if it is my player or common for all N3,
when i use it as DAC i don't have sound via Bluetooth.
With headphone it is ok, is that normal?
An other issues is when used as dac from phone the sound is stuttering!!!

According to this @CayinSupport post from last month [ https://www.head-fi.org/threads/cay...oax-out-for-150.833932/page-323#post-13861224 ], the N3 can't output audio via Bluetooth, when connected as a USB DAC.

While it would add another device to your stack, this "TROND 2-in-1 Bluetooth V4.1 Transmitter Receiver / Wireless 3.5mm Audio Adapter (AptX Low Latency for Both TX & RX)" [ https://smile.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receiver-Simultaneously/dp/B01B4W40VC/ ], could be connected to the Line Output of the N3. I have several of these devices, and know they work, when connected to the Line Output on my Onkyo DP-X1.

Thanks for the information about bluetooth.
Any idea for the sluttering when the N3 is used as DAC with a phone?

When you're using it with the phone, is it connected with a known good USB OTG cable?
Do you have other USB DACs that work with your phone, and don't have the stuttering issue? (In other words, are you sure it's the N3, and not the phone?)

Hello and thank you for your assistance!

System setting\Firmware version: 2.2
Music setting\S/PDIF: DoP
Tested DSD files: DSD128 (5.6MHz)

I have never reset the player. I received it 1 or 2 weeks ago, upgraded the firmware as soon as I unboxed it, and that's it.

@CayinSupport, is this information enough? Should I try any procedure and revert with its outcome?

Hi, N3 has "limited" support to Android device. The problem is Android is a big family and not all mobile phone manufacturers perceive the Android connectivity (esp OTG implementation) at the same page. So we have encountered some Android devices that is not fully compatible with N3. In addition, N3 will charge up and drain the battery of Android devices, we are unsatisfied with the Android/N3 experience so we decided to not recommend Android support at this stage.

Thank you for your prompt reply!

Hi, N3 cannot play DSD128 files but support upto DSD64 files by type-c to coaxial cable over DoP mode. You could see that in our official website:

Hi CayinSupport,
Happy Holidays !

Today received my Christmas gift to myself a new N3 ! Would like to start adding music. Can you play DSD64 files through the headphones and output through the USB to Coaxial cable ?
I welcome any suggestions for sources for high resolution files. Plan to make my first purchase Kind of Blue by Miles Davis

Best,
- Mark

Also, I think I even found the source of my small audio delay on USB DAC mode! For some reason, my OS had HPET enabled by default. I took the time to disable it, so now it uses my processor as the clock, so now I have perfect sync on windows 10 with my 5ghz 8600k.

If you are using DAC mode and have delay with w10 drivers, try checking if disabling HPET would work for you. It sounds amazing with my kinera earbuds and dolby atmos for some gaming! :) I am now confident enough that I dont have to lug my schiit stack around for traveling unless I really want to...love my n3.

DSD128 signal can be carried through coax, I believe. But I guess this is limited by your max 24/192 PCM output, right?

If that’s the case, I’ll return your cable and buy a usb one from another brand. According to your link, that should work.

HPET is well known to do that...I figured you'd already had that disabled! Also, the C1E state can cause dropouts as it changes too, so it could stabilize it even more with it off. These are the first things done to DAWs...well, usually disabling ALL C-states.

Happy holiday Mark! Yes, N3 works perfectly with DSD64 files through headphone. Besides, DSD64 files can be output through the USB to Coaxial cable.

Sorry for being unclear before! N3 don't support DSD128 files through USB to coaxial cable, because it exceeds the coaxial specification instead of the 24/192 PCM output.
