I am about to buy the cayin n3 but I am also struck by the e1da gen3, I am only looking for the best sound quality

Hmmmm. Both devices have very different uses. The N3 a standalone DAP with a huge amount of flexibility and the e1da a headphone DAC/Amp. It's going to come down to what do you intend to use it with. Do you need the features of the N3 or just an offboard DAC/Amp?

I haven't heard the latter device so I can't comment on sound quality. ESS DACS have a great reputation that is granted, but sound quality is subjective. What I find to be the best sounding may sound terrible to others.

Just to finish, I also think the same as you, the sound is subjective, even so I wanted references, maybe that will help me decide

I have no experience with the e1da gen 3, but there seems to be quite a lot of discussions online and here in the forums too (which you already know) about the device. Good luck with your future purchase whichever you choose!

Unlikely, unless there is a DAC hidden in the USB-C connector. The USB output of N3 is strictly digital audio, you can't get analogue audio from the USB-C of N3 directly

Can't comment or speak for E1DA Gen3, but I can tell you N3 is not powerful enough to handle HD58x, it can drive the headphone to very loud level, but the sound quality is far from satisfactory level of HD58x.

Many times I didn't close it and I don't remember complaining about it. It lasts without problems for days

Not with this cheap adaptor. If only you have the 3.5 mm output broken like me try at last sonata hd pro dongle. I use it with sonata hd pro and btr5
