Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150

nifty, I'm curious to see why they choose a separate amp to handle the line out, rather than running straight from the dac output... or is that standard.

The data sheet for the AK4490 specifies that it has a variable adjustment to digital volume out, so why is there a need for a discrete amp for the line out function

Non the less, I'll be doing some line out comparisons later today, to see how that opAmp functions when I feed it through my pico power

I would assume the amp is to meet their requirements for output voltage and/or output impedance. I dunno. Cayin states line-out is 1V at 10K Ohms.

Maybe it has to do with the LO being an optical out as well?

Guys i noticed a problem with my cayin. I turned it off and charged it. About 4 or 5 hours later, its charged to 100 percent. I took the cable off. But then in the morning when i turned it on, its only 95%.

I have the same issue today, i put some files (flac) on the sd card, it shows up on the sd card.
Once i put it on the N3, the folder is there but empty.
I tried on my hackintosh via 2 different usb cables, with a sd card reader, i even put the sd card in an android tablet to load the files and then transferred it in my N3...same issue
The flac files play just fine on my computer, but don't play on the tablet, nor appear on the N3.
Any idea? am i doing something wrong? it was working fine the first time i transferred some files, only thing that happened in between is the firmware upgrade to V.2.

Perhaps you guys that have had your N3 a little longer than me can shed some light on something for me. I went to find an album to listen to (Slipknot - .5 The Gray Chapter). However, this album did not show up using file browsing. Hooked the N3 up to my PC and the file and all of the tracks are showing up. Disconnect the N3 and the album is gone again. All other albums are showing within this folder. Hook the N3 back up to my PC and the file is there again. I delete it and put it back on the card with the same results of not showing on the N3. I hook it back up to my PC again and remove the .5 part from the folder name and it shows up and plays on the N3. I don't know if this is a known issue/bug or even if anyone else has had this happen to them. I don't have a lot of albums that start with a ( . ), but wonder if that was the problem?

Thanks

ETA: I went through and checked a couple other albums that have a number as the first character in the title and they all show up which leads me to believe the ( . ) is the culprit, but that seems weird to me.

I apologize for all the questions. I've been using FiiO's (X1, X1II, X3II, & X5II) for the past couple years for reference and never had this issue with them.

May I know what is the format of your card? Could you please try another cards? What is the sampling rate of your flac music files? Please note that N3 doesn't support 64kHZ sampling rate flac music files.

It is in ex-fat, but i think the problem is simple: the sd card is faulty as i can't move anything on it.
I don't have a Windows pc to try from another source than my hackintosh (maybe it's the culprit), waiting for a new sd card reader to see if it comes from that.
(i quickly tested on a 2gb card and i can move files on it... so my 128gb sd card seems to be the problem, next week a new one will arrive and everything should be ok)
Thanks for your support Cayin :ok_hand:

Hi guys, bit of a side topic update but we had our car in for it's service. We told them about the N3 connecting and not playing via Opel Intellilink. We also have had issues with Apple Carplay. They have fitted a new media system as apparently there's been a few issues and now everything works!

So happy to be able to use my N3 in the car now.

My card is fine. It's exfat 200 gig Sandisk. I removed the "." from the beginning of the folder name and it appears. The folder contained a 320 but mp3 album.

15 hours with the cayin have been a pleasure. I listen mostly mp3 and church podcast. I cant give technical comment but i can tell easily tell that this is better than my sansa clip. Im an amarteur who cant tell the difference between my 700 dollar home setup vs 5000 dollar setup. I feel there are potential if i upgrade my kz zst to somthing in the same price range as the n3.

Im curious if the battery is replaceable? How to open the battery compartment?

Hi, N3's battery is replaceable. But please note that customers need to mail it back to the factory for replacement or buy battery from Cayin and replace it by themselves. But according Air Law, for safety, we cannot only mail the lithium battery and must place it in the player for delivery. If they replace unauthorized battery on their own, it will void the warranty.

My Cyan Cayin N3 is on it's way. Always listened music on the HTC 10 which was OK.
Now with the U11 it's a step backwards. So a DAP is welcome then. Hope it will top a HTC 10. I guess it will.

Was planning to buy a Fiio X5II but after seeing and reading all the reviews. The N3 is the best bang for the buck.

And the HiBy feature looks like it's awesome, this way you can make it a streaming device in combination with the smartphone. Very clever. No need to pay 300 dollar+ to get Wifi capabilities.

Going to listen on the Momentum. And ordered the HD650 and Amp it with the Topping Nx4.
Can't wait until it arrives all.

:smiley:Haha, we also hope that you can enjoy music with Cayn N3!

Except my nearest factory is in China, so I may as well buy a new N3 for the same price when my battery dies :p

Ive downloaded the One from the anticipated beta that was posted here by Andy and then the one thats on the N3 new V2 firmware. None of them works on those 3 devices.
The HibyMusic app all close abruptly when connecting to the N3 via HibyLink.

If i dont turn on HibyLink on the N3 then i can connect to it as a bluetooth receiver from the same devices, so bluetooth is working on the N3 and on the android devices.
Thanks, will try to follow that thread also.

You can go to setting->Bluetooth, then click on the setting of Cayin N3, then forget this device and re-pair them to have a try.

I am waiting delivery of an N3. my intent is to use it as a wireless transport for my mojo. will hiby link allow me to do that? I am tired of wait for poly to become available and until it is I figured this might be a temporary alternative. Am I correct in my planning, or is there no way I can make it happen. the chain would be N3 tethered to mojo with hiby link handling the control duties.

last question... can I stream from my android device to mojo through the N3?

Hi, if your topology is cell phone))((N3--Mojo, yes, you can control mojo through the N3 with your android device.
