Didnt understand the translated article but really liked the design. Hardware looks the same as the N6 so really looking forward to this.

Do you think this will be made available in US same time as in China?

So the only codec that won't play is DSD256, 11.5 Mhz right? The other two are done natively?

The DSD512 is also missing. :D

Just kidding my friend, :p You are correct, DSD64 and DSD128 will decode natively.

The Google Translation is hopeless on mainland China articles, The phrase and slag they used are different so Google is not really helping.
I can't figure out the English meaning either even I can read the Chinese article already.

The N6 is still superior from audiophile perspective because N6 runs on BTL (aka. dual mono), but i5 will not be too far away especially when you pair it with IEMs that are not very difficult to deal with.

i5 will require a longer time to enter US and Europe market when compare to other DAP because we need to acquire WiFI authentication before we can sell the player

Wow, looks promising.

Andykong-Will we have root access?

Considering I love my Cayin C5, it's only logical to purchase a dap from you guys, having full Android is a huge preference.

Can't grant the root access to user, This is very dangerous on customized Android, if user deleted some of the critical file in the players (e.g., the native HiBy music player app), you can't recover or refresh the machine like a standard Android device, and you must send it back to factory for repair service.

Sure You can recover!, almost any android device has a "special mode"(recovery or/and fastboot mode) just to "reflash" whole firmware/rom to factory state.
Root on android is very useful, especially for advanced users.

Saying it now. achilles heel will be the battery life.  Betting the average will be around 9 hours or so.  If it isn't I'll tip my hat to them.

The specification is out, we can do 11 hours offline playback, 10 hours WIFi playback, not bad for an Android DAP.

I sure hope the device can be reset back to factory default state.

For single-purpose fully customized device like i5, what is the benefit to root access? From manufacturer point of view, we cannot assume our user is an advanced users, so unless there is strong reason to support the proposition, we prefer not to grant the root privileged to users.

The i5 runs on Cortex-A7 Kernel, so theoretically you can try to root the player following the generic Cortex-A7 steps but I have no idea if that will work certainly, I am an audiophile but not an advanced user in Android, so your guess probably is better then mine.

well, possible.... but if one slot only it should be a proper SD-Slot and not a MicroSD-Slot...
It looks like there would have been enough space for real SD-slot or a second MicroSD-Slot.
Or alternatively at least 128GB internal storage.

On 232 GB now you can only store the essentials of your library.

Yes, somehow we run out of data channel in the MCU, so we can only accommodate one card slot.

We don't have enough space INTERNALLY to house a full size card slot, the SD slot will takes up 4 times more space then the TF slot on PCB, and the thickness of the full size SD card will cut short the battery space significantly. I'll fetch an i5 PCB and take some photo later, you'll be amazed by the density of the i5 PCB even with TF card slot only.

We are using eMMC memory for internal storage, 128GB eMMC will jack up the i5 into another price segment. We don't have any solid plan to go for that right now, but we might do that if the eMMC cost will drop significantly in future.

Thanks @Andykong for the nice explanation. So it seems one has to go for the adapter-solution then.
Everything else from what I can see of this new DAP looks very tempting to me!

Other then adapter, you can also consider OTG thumb drive

How about trying online streaming? As you has put it, 232GB is good for necessary library collection, why not let Tidal to fill up the remaining need in on-the-go music appreciation.
