Campfire - Solaris

Okay, FNG here with a request for opinions from the learned Solaris owners. I have been listening with the Solaris OG + Cobalt through iPhone and Apple Music for a little over a year and enjoying it a lot. For some reason, the Andromeda 2020 is laying it's charms on me with all of the reading I've done and I would like another IEM. Would it be a good complement to the Solaris or is the Solaris already an Andromeda on sterioids? I listen to a lot of genres, but mostly ambient electronic (Steve Roach, Brian Eno), progressive rock, classical. No metal, hip hop, or country. Thank you.

The Andromeda is a good complement to the Solaris OG.

i ended up selling solaris og. but right before that i got a nice road trip (not as the driver) with them, my adhd/overthinking got turned off and suddenly i could hear the out of head soundstage and just how much it truly reveals. metallica's nothing else matters turned from a good metal song to a beautiful musical composition. would probably keep them if the gold wouldn't flake. shame. oh well. getting a r2r2000 but won't have the solaris by the time it arrives to see how they pair :frowning2:
The Solaris won't flake. You just gotta keep them in the mesh bag at all times when not in use. I have kept my andros mint that way.

I've got both and am happy to have them both in my collection.

The Andromeda 2020 has a darker sound signature than the original Solaris. This means that, for me, it makes for a different listening experience: it's more forgiving of poorly recorded genres and it's less fatiguing (not that the Solaris is fatiguing). I love it for alternative rock. The darker tuning makes the Andro 2020 more of a specialist IEM for me than the Solaris. The Solaris works with all genres; the Andromeda 2020, less so. The Andromeda 2020 also has certain timbral and textural qualities that I really like; i some way, I prefer the mids of the Andromeda 2020. The Andromeda 2020 also has a slight mid-bass emphasis, which again makes for a nice bit of texture with bass guitars and double basses, but the Solaris has a deeper sub-bass extension. The Solaris also has a better, smoother treble extension - for my tastes - and it provides the kind of sparkle that the original Andromeda had but that the Andromeda 2020 lacks, given its darker tuning.

All this is to say that while they share some similarities - a nice, light touch to the sound, excellent resolution (the Solaris is slightly better here, I suspect), excellent speed, and lovely open and spacious staging - there's enough to differentiate them that, for my taste, it's worth having both. They also play well off the same sources when it comes to hiss and to matching the output impedance to suit your preferences (e.g. lower than 1 ohm Z out for darker, bassier tunings). I hope this helps!

The gold flakes, seriously? I dont keep them in that bag ever and drop em right in my pocket...

This is a very very rare occurrence. It doesn't happen often, so nothing to be worried about.

Agreed all around! Love both the OG and 2020.

That's a really helpful assessment. Thank you so much!

I totally agree with the fact that the Andromeda 2020 has a somewhat "darker" sound signature.

Thanks to christmas holydays i had a chance to try well my solaris 2020. For me it is a really good all rounder iem with high level of resolution. Just more mid frequencies and was perfect. It is easy to drive so always use in single ended mode. Honestly i don' t understand people that speaks bad about solaris and campfire. Og course market is full of alternatives but solatis is a mature product. In the meantime i will keep my vega 2020 just because sometimes i prefere the dirty but fun presentation of vega with genres like some rock or metal

I have the I have the 1Z, 1A, Solaris SE and Solaris 2020 and the only time I hear any hiss is if I turn the volume way way up on normal gain. I hear nothing at normal playback levels 35-50. This is using a DHC Clone Silver balanced cable which will reveal everything in the playback chain.and the only time I hear any hiss is if I turn the volume way way up on normal gain. I typically use the 1Z with the Solaris SE and the 1A with the Solaris 2020. If I had to pick which combo is best I would say the 1Z and Solaris SE. The 1A and Solaris 2020 is not far behind but different. The difference is the mid bass where the 1A and 2020 is more pronounced. The 1Z and SE go deeper with better bass definition.
