Campfire Audio - Introducing 2 new models Hello Andromeda and Nova
Jun 15, 2018 at 4:00 PM Post #5,117 of 9,829

I took the memory wire out of my ALO Audio SXC-8 cable (thanks lookout57 for instructions)

Now it sits across my ears very well with the Andromeda.

What are the advantages of memory wire?

I absolutely hate them and manufacturers across all price points seem to like to add them.

SXC 8 is even better as it improves the bass and details.

I just got the SXC 8 this week and yes it does have better bass but not so sure on the details, I think the Ref8 is more neutral and clarity a touch better. In any case I'm finding it sad that it's similarly microphonic like the Ref8.

I had always thought memory wire was for holding its shape while cable is over the ear. It is mostly for IEM worn cable up.

I 100% prefer the shrink memory sleeve from my Effect Audio cable over any memory wire cable

+1!
I have the Eros II but its on 2-pin for my 64Audio U4SE though. They pair really well. And yes I do like the shaped sleeve used. Fiio also does that to their replacement cables. By the way EA's 2-pin connectors are sharp and they press into my ears.

Hey are those Andromedas? Would you know how do they compare with Dorada/Vega?

That is Andromeda CK Blue. Andromeda delivers a wider and more holographic soundstage than Vega as well as more textured bass, mids and treble. Vega has better 3D depth, bass impact and fun factor than Andromeda.

You mean that the 2pin connector is bulky? Fortunately, it's a perfect match with CA IEMs though.

Nope, it is the sharp edges near the connector. With the U4SE, the connector sits near my ear and sometimes the sharp edge presses onto it.

Those Andromedas look very beautiful. I have tried CA's BA IEMs but the design (edges) looks uncomfortable. I tried the Nova and Polaris a couple of weeks ago and recently Jupiter. In the end I picked the CA's DD line up because they are relatively smaller and more comfortable.

I did this just now on my Reference 8 and stock Litz cable. I removed both layers from Litz and only 1 layer of heat shrink from Ref 8. They are now a lot easier to wind up and store, and also it's now possible to easily wear Andromedas without hooking the ears. If I'm OCD I'll flip the channel in the player.

That's the only cons with the CA BA design but fortunately, they sit perfectly to my ears without the edges pressing on my ears. The MMCX standard termination fits a lot closer to the body so you won't have that sharp edges when it presses on your ear

Orion 2018.jpg
Does this look like aluminum or stainless steel?

I don't have any older models to compare to. This is the 2018 Orion model I received in Janurary. The cerakote is kind of wearing off from taking it through outdoors environment in multiple climates.

Jae, nice to see you again, here’s a picture of mine and they are about a year old now. Aluminium can be polished and it will look very much like polished stainless steel. Read somewhere hear the newer models are using stainless. Nice looking guitar you have there, looks like a Taylor
