Yesterday the two wires connected to the actual headphones were yanked pretty hard and now I'm getting no sound at all from either side - just spoke to audio technica and they've quoted roughly £40 for repair seeing as how I don't have warranty.

Are there any other new headphones that I could switch over to that are similar price, or even better, does anyone know any places in London that can deal with repairing ATHs?

It's a hassle to find a new pair in England - but I'd definitely end up spending more than £40 on a new pair - but it's genuinely hard to find a cheap real pair. I got lucky with mine and managed to pick em up second hand for £30 though.
